73. They did that on my dad last winter
The purpose is to knock out an area that's sending out disruptive electrical signals. And it did get his heart rhythm steady -- he died two months later of congestive heart failure, but he was 93. Cheney is a lot younger, and if he doesn't have any active problem besides the arrhythmia, ablation should help. Still, it doesn't seem like a good sign.

There's no presence of a soul in this guy. The only heart he does have is the one that pumps blood, and even that has always been disordered.

22. Not a terribly "complicated" procedure. You all can probably stop celebrating.
They do put the patient to sleep--so it does involve anesthesia--and then they shock the heart to get it back in sync. Minimal risk to the patient and it will improve heart function a great deal. People with compromised heart function need to keep it (the heart) working as best as possible and this procedure does that. The biggest danger here is that the heart will return to an abnormal rhythm and they'll need to do it again.

We went down that road a couple of times when my Dad was in the later stages of heart failure. He was sleepy for a while afterward, but heart function was improved for a time.

Make no mistake, Unca Dick is a very sick man, but this by itself is probably not enough to take him to room temp.

38. Actually the biggest risk is a stroke
Atrial fibrullation is more of a nuisance than a life threatening condition, though the risk for stroke rises significantly. Blood tends to pool in the atria and start to thinly clot on the walls. When they restore normal sinus rhytym, there's a risk that a clot could dislodge and flow to the brain resulting in stroke. So, before they cardiovert you (restore normal rhythm), they stick you in a hospital and load you up with heparin to reduce the risks of clotting (usually for a day or two), then first try to chemically cardiovert you and, if that fails, use shock as described.

When afib, the patient tends to get 25% less blood flow to the brain (the atria add about that much volume when beating normally). If you ask me, that would explain alot about Cheney.

Come on you guys, think like a scoundrel.

This happened before. The Veep leaves office for some reason.
The president appoints a new unsullied Veep. Then the president preemptively pardons all cabinet members. Then the president leaves office, and the new Veep/now president pardons the former president.

With a pardon, he's untouchable.

... And yet I'm torn apart.
Just because I'm presumin' that I could be kind-a-human,
If I only had heart.

I'd be tender - I'd be gentle and awful sentimental
Regarding Love and Art.
I'd be friends with the sparrows ...
and the boys who shoots the arrows
If I only had a heart.

Picture me - a balcony. Above a voice sings low.
Wherefore art thou, Romeo? I hear a beat....
How sweet.

Just to register emotion, jealousy - devotion,
And really feel the part.
I could stay young and chipper
and I'd lock it with a zipper,
If I only had a heart.

81. Hope that fucker dies in pain.
Sorry, I'm through with hiding it. I'd never wish anyone harm him, but since he's never going to go to the Hague like he deserves, fuck it. I hope he suffers.

82. I want the piece of shit to live.
Him dying without ever receiving any sort of comeuppance for all the evil he brought into this world is no victory for us.

85. Cheney treated for heart problem
Source: Chicago Tribune

WASHINGTON — Vice President Dick Cheney was treated successfully on Wednesday afternoon for an irregular heartbeat that he experienced earlier in the day, his office announced.

Cheney was treated with electric shock at George Washington University Hospital and left soon after for his residence, his spokeswoman, Megan Mitchell, said. She said that the procedure "went smoothly and without complication," and that the vice president would resume his regular duties without delay.

Because of the incident, Cheney had to cancel a campaign visit to the Chicago area, where he had been scheduled to speak at a reception for Marty Ozinga, the Republican candidate for the House in Illinois' 11th Congressional District, southwest of Chicago. Ozinga, who owns a concrete company, is running against Democratic state Sen. Debbie Halvorson. Incumbent Rep. Jerry Weller is a Republican who is retiring after seven terms.

Cheney, 67, has a history of heart trouble, including four heart attacks. The last time he experienced an irregular heartbeat, on Nov. 26, 2007, the doctors at the GWU hospital also administered an electrical shock and restored a normal rhythm.

87. It's too late anyway.
America would be much better off today if we had lost Vice President Dick long ago.

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=132x7474700 Joe “the Plumber” Wurzelbacher related to Charles Keating. Oops. October 16th, 2008 . by Marty John McCain did great tonight in the debate. But every time John mentioned “Joe the Plumber,” some of us in the campaign banged our heads against the wall. If Steve Schmidt had any hair left, I hear he would have been pulling it out tonight. He reportedly screamed at John’s debate prep team tonight (out of earshot of reporters, of course). “You idiots - he’s related to Charles Keating… of the Keating Five scandal!” They thought they had a real live Joe Six-Pack who’s spurned Barack Obama’s tax plan. But what they forgot to do was check on Joe Wurzelbacher’s background. Turns out that Joe Wurzelbacher from the Toledo event is a close relative of Robert Wurzelbacher of Milford, Ohio. Who’s Robert Wurzelbacher? Only Charles Keating’s son-in-law and the former senior vice president of American Continental, the parent company of the infamous Lincoln Savings and Loan. The now retired elder Wurzelbacher is also a major contributor to Republican causes giving well over $10,000 in the last few years. Does any of this make Joe the Plumber a bad guy? Of course not. But on a night when McCain accused Obama of guilt-by-association, this isn’t going to look good for us. Hello, but on a night when John goes full bore on William Ayers and dodges a bullet by Obama not mentioning Keating Five, the press is going to bring it back front and center by midday tomorrow once they delve deeper into the most popular plumber in America. This might remind you of the Paris Hilton scandal - where one side of the McCain campaign attacked her in an ad, not realizing that her family were huge donors. I was the first to warn the campaign of the perils of miscommunication, and that story flared for a week. http://www.eisenstadtgroup.com/2008/10/16/joe-the-plumber-wurzelbacher-related-to-charles-keating-oops/
