US believes nuns have a habit for terrorism
Source: Brisbane Times (Oz)

BALTIMORE, Maryland - Two Roman Catholic nuns jailed for non-violent action against nuclear weapons were also listed as terrorists by US authorities.

Sister Ardeth Platte, 72, and Sister Carol Gilbert, 60, came back from two weeks out of Baltimore to find letters from the Maryland state police saying they had been wrongfully listed as suspected terrorists on a 2005-2006 federal database.

...
...

"If they can label us as terrorists, they can label all kinds of people as terrorists," Gilbert said. "So then people become afraid to speak out against what the established government might be saying - and that is the demise of democracy."

Which is, of course, the point.

2. Well, I had some nun-teachers
that truly instilled terror into their students! ;)

Glad to hear that Sisters Platte and Gilbert have been exonerated. But apparently, any one can be legally listed as a terrorist. We live in scary times.

5. Shameful
Even I would not stoop THAT low in making a pun.

At least, not unless I had thought of it first.

it's been all down hill. Apparently God is the new "bin Laden".

15. And omnipresent to boot.
but apparently (boot)straps are an optional accessory that costs more than the product. And some boots come in sizes too big to actually protect the wearers' feet from stubbed toes, coal walking, and the molecular effects of processed yellow cake.

The answer my friend is "blowing in the wind."

16. They should be glad they're not in Central America..,.
They would have become "flying nuns" by now as they were pushed out of helicopters by Negroponte's henchmen.

Reality is this administration is prowling, or trolling, the internet looking for suspected terrorists. No doubt the majority of people who have posted anything even slightly critical of this administration is on a list somewhere. Including the comments on the major media websites. And those lists, by the way, are sufficient reason for local law enforcement to "detain" you if they choose. It has happened. It just hasn't happened enough times to alarm people to the point Congress will be forced to deal with what they put in place with the Patriot Act.

We are living in Nazi Germany. And anyone who doesn't think so is fooling themselves.

Thank you so much Madame Speaker.

18. Having had first hand experience of Catholic nuns while
attending catholic schools for 12 years, yeah, some nuns should be listed as terrorists--especially to children. Hey, Sister Anne Marie, CSJ, you remember taking my primary reader and hitting me squarely on the top of my head with it because I could read better and faster than the others who were reading that stupid "Dick and Jane" bullshit? Hey Sister Mary Jonelle, CSJ, do you remember grabbing me by my collar and screaming at me because you didn't know or ask about my having an excuse note written by you to be out of my class, on my way out the door to my mom's car to go to a doctor's appointment?

Yeah, nuns can be terrorists.

21. I've known both of these nuns for over 40 years
Edited on Sun Oct-12-08 02:41 PM by 5thGenDemocrat
They come out of my old parish (Sacred Heart) here in Saginaw, Michigan. Sister Ardeth was once a city councilperson here (before JPII said a member of the cloth couldn't serve both God and man) and Sister Carole (NOT Carol) was one of my mom's best friends. They are about as terroristic as Barney the Dinosaur.
Sister Carole has it exactly right in the quote from the OP. This is the demise of democracy, under the auspices of Little Hitler.
John
Way back when, the two used to trespass onto the now-closed Wurtsmith AFB at Oscoda to protest the nuclear weapons which were stored/officially not stored there. It got to be a routine between them and the Air Police there, who treated them like the gentle, holy souls both of them are.
I love them both very much and wish them every possible happiness. I'm pretty much an atheist today, but if anyone is doing "God's work," they are.

so it is in the same ballpark as terrorism.
