Leonardo DiCaprio's Climate Change Plea To Senators
Source: Post Chronicle

Leonardo DiCaprio wants U.S. presidential hopefuls Barack Obama and John McCain to pledge an end to America's dependence on foreign oil.

The environmentally-friendly Titanic star has called for the senators to push for increased use of wind power and solar energy, regardless of who wins the race to the White House next month (Nov08).

And he insists America has a "moral and patriotic" duty to invest in renewable energy sources to halt the effects of climate change.

DiCaprio tells People.com, "The most critical thing for the new administration is to implement an environmental policy that automatically integrates environmental issues we're all concerned about in our everyday lives. It's a moral issue and a patriotic issue, really."

2. No kidding
Riverhouse is described as "the highest performance green living in Manhattan condominiums".

The 264-unit complex in Rockefeller Park was built using locally acquired renewable materials, is partly powered by solar energy, offers a 24-hour fresh-filtered air system and boasts green rooftops planted with pine trees.

Riverhouse residents also have access to a children's playroom, media cafe, fitness centre, dog spa and a treehouse.

DiCaprio has long been an ardent campaigner on green issues. He was one of the first people to buy a hybrid car and has established his environment awareness organisation the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation.

4. My plea to Leo
I agree here but get kind of tired of the Hollywood crowd's pontificating. I'd like to see the Hollywood crowd start walking the walk instead of talking the talk. These folks fly to Cannes by private jet, dine on the finest foods flown in from all over the world and otherwise live a pretty self indulgent lifestyle and take more than their share of resources......LET'S SEE YOU LIVE LIKE A NORMAL PERSON, LEO!

5. Have you seen his home?
* Low emissions paints
* 24 hour fresh filtered air system
* Rotating solar panels
* Water treatment facility
* River views
* 24 hour fitness center
* Dog spa
* Landscaped terrace

Plus he has opted for commercial planes rather then private jets because they use less fuel. This man really does walk the walk.

6. Um, DiCaprio lives far greener than 99% of us
his home is made from recycled materials and is powered by clean renewable energy. He drives a Prius, he gives much of his money to environmental causes. I'd say that his carbon footprint is very, very small at this point. Many "Hollywood types" are following his lead, so don't lump everyone together, please.

7. 99%? I sincerely doubt that
Kudos to Leo for making a true effort, I applaud him for that, but most of the crowd is wasteful and self indulgent while admonishing the rest of us who will never enjoy the luxuries these people partake in on a regular basis. One person making 3 trips to Europe will use more fuel than the average family with a reviled SUV will use in a year (how many times does Clooney go to Switzerland?). So yes Lorien, I will lump and judge just like everyone else does.

8. Well how about 95% of us?
Seriously, he lives in a house that is eco friendly from top too bottom. He has devoted ALOT of time to raise awareness of global warming. I can't speak for other celebs but everything about Leo is green.
