Palin: Obama's trying to scare seniors
Source: MSNBC

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Palin said a McCain Administration would protect Social Security and not tax health care, while suggesting Obama was trying to scare senior citizen voters in Florida.

“We will protect the entitlement programs that Americans depend on -- above all Social Security,” she said at a fundraiser at Jacksonville Municipal Stadium. “No presidential election cycle is complete, though, so keep in mind, without the Democratic candidate coming down here to Florida especially and trying to stir up fear and panic on this issue of Social Security.”

Palin accused Obama of exploiting the health care and Social Security issues to win votes among seniors in Florida. “If you expect any better from a guy who promises to get rid of old-style politics, you’re in for a good warning there,” she said. “Because Barack Obama has exploited this issue and that’s the way that he works.”

Palin’s choice of venue for this message was odd, however. Despite the Florida address, she spoke predominantly to Baby Boomers and younger voters at the fundraiser, and the promises to “make health care more accessible and more affordable” did not garner applause.

no need to back up their inane ramblings with facts after all some of their base voted for bush twice. Obviously truth is not important.

5. I haven't heard Obama mention McCain's plan to pay for 'his healthcare ' by cutting $1.3 trillion
from Medicare and Medicaid.
http://www.poconorecord.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20081006/NEWS/81006014/-1/rss01

John McCain would pay for his health plan with major reductions to Medicare and Medicaid, a top aide said, in a move that independent analysts estimate could result in cuts of $1.3trillion over 10 years to the government programs.

The Republican presidential nominee has said little about the proposed cuts, but they are needed to keep his health-care plan “budget neutral,” as he has promised. The McCain campaign hasn’t given a specific figure for the cuts, but didn’t dispute the analysts’ estimate.

But Douglas Holtz-Eakin, Sen. McCain’s senior policy adviser, said Sunday that the campaign has always planned to fund the tax credits, in part, with savings from Medicare and Medicaid. Those government health-care programs serve seniors, poor families and the disabled. Medicare spending for the fiscal year ended Sept. 30 is estimated at $457.5 billion.

27. So how, then, is Obama lying by saying McCain would cut Medicare and Medicaid?
Not to mention the terrible affect on SS that would surely come.

6. My hat's off to her. Every time I think...
..."Well, that's it, she's reached the absolute summit of irony, stupidity, prevarication and demagoguery, no one could possibly have the face to go further than that," she proves me wrong.

She carves out new heights of moronic irony with every speech. New extremes of bizarre demagogic incitement of her backwash base.

OBAMA is trying to "scare" some voter demographic?

Excuse me?

The absolute masters of fear-as-politics are accusing Obama of poaching on their territory?

Please someone, stop them. I only have one irony meter left and we can't afford to buy any more when this one explodes...

amazedly,
Bright

16. Has she actually READ McCranky's health care plan??? I thnk not. Also...
in the WSJ yesterday, those McCranky aides saying the health care plan will be paid for by cuts in Medicare and Medicaid.

Ooops... I don't think she put the WSJ on the "READ" side of her "t" chart titled "Newspapers: the Next Time Katie Asks"

18. She's seriously delusional and projecting...
McCain voted for Bush's plan and still wants to work towards privatizing Soc Sec...
http://www.aflcio.org/issues/politics/mccain_retirement.cfm
Can you imagine what a horrible mess that would be now if they had gotten away with that nonsense? :grr:

McCain also wants to raise the age for Medicare as well as make cuts to it:
http://online.wsj.com/article/SB122315505846605217.html

Barack Obama's not trying to scare anyone, he's trying to WARN folks about the FACTS of McCain's BS plan for Soc Sec and Medicare. Many of us who are receiving Soc Sec as a senior or disabled are very worried because we KNOW what the FACTS are and most of us need this just to survive. The FACT is that McCain and Palin don't get this.. Barack Obama and Joe Biden DO.

24. And even if they weren't..
many retirees and those soon to hopefully retire are scared as well.

Hell I'm young and have health insurance and McCain's healthcare plan scares me. He'll make an already bad situation worse.

23. And the prospect of Palin as VP should not only frighten seniors
But should frighten anyone with decency and common sense. The Wasilla airhead being a heartbeat away from the presidency is even more frightening than Dick Cheney being a heartbeat away from the presidency and that's quite an achievement

25. I like her talking about this.
Republicans complaining about Democrats "scaring seniors" is great for the crusty right-wing crowds, but bad because it raises the whole issue, a loser for the right as people want these programs strong and funded.

26. Poison Palin
and relic who is her running mate, are both trying to scare anyone will listen. They are desperate for votes and they know it. They can't gain enough confidence in the voters for themselves, so they're using fear of Obama anyway they can.

McCain's plan is to follow through with Shrubs' privatization of Social Security.

Reforming, translates into privatizing.
