Cuba, FARC may be training guerrillas at Venezuelan camp
Source: Miami Herald

The Venezuelan government, with help from Cuban military advisors and leftist Colombian guerrillas, is operating a secret paramilitary training camp in a closed-off tourist campground near here, former participants and government critics say.

The camp offers six-week courses for a rolling contingent of 400 to 1,000 participants, including a first-phase political indoctrination with texts printed in Cuba and a second phase of guerrilla training for the most loyal students that includes the use of light and heavy weaponry and use of explosives, they added.

One complaint filed in April with a prosecutor's office in the surrounding state of Tachira requested an investigation of the secret operations conducted by the Cubans, including ideological instructions based on the philosophy of Ché Guevara and Fidel Castro as well as speeches by Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez.

If the allegations are confirmed, it would heighten tensions between Chávez's leftist government, the conservative government of President Alvaro Uribe in neighboring Colombia and the Bush administration in Washington.

3. So are you asserting the article is not true?
Do you actually believe this is a planted CIA story, or was that just hyperbole?

6. El Nuevo Herald--OMFG
You actually believe that El Nuevo Herald is a *credible source*?

And that *journalist* CASTO OCANDO?? This nutcase actually appeared on Miami Spanish language tv station with Bush pal CIA agent Felix Rodriquez discussing this same kind of bullshit.

8. So are you asserting that the article is not true?
I believe the Miami Herald is a McClatchy paper. They have a good track record on Iraq reporting accuracy.

10. 10 Miami Journalists Take U.S. Pay
..."Those who were paid the most were veteran reporters and a freelance contributor for El Nuevo Herald, the Spanish-language newspaper published by the corporate parent of The Miami Herald. Pablo Alfonso, who reports on Cuba and writes an opinion column, was paid almost $175,000 since 2001 to host shows on Radio Martí and TV Martí. El Nuevo Herald freelance reporter Olga Connor, who writes about Cuban culture, received about $71,000, and staff reporter Wilfredo Cancio Isla, who covers the Cuban exile community and politics, was paid almost $15,000 in the last five years."...

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This is simply a REPRINT from El Nuevo Herald and I don't care who owns the MH it's still a POS and everyone with half a brain knows it.
13. So are you asserting that the article is not true?
It's a simple yes-or-no question.
You should also know that gratuitous insults are not advised.
14. perhaps a grain of truth
however it is typical of the demonetization of Chavez to over-blow anything that comes along and tries to paint him as a slavering commie out to rape our wimmin and dogs.
17. Zorro,
the story has a HIGH PROBABILITY of being a planted story. The story sites no credible witness and even says "if the claims are proven true". The implication is that the "facts" of the story are in doubt, and it could easily be false. (The ability to read between the lines of msm stories is a developed talent, but everyone can learn how.) This story has the same characteristics as the Grenada Invasion story. Cubans building airfields for strategic bombers, now the Cuban boogie-man is training terrorists. Cuba spends its time and money on many projects, but military projects of this sort are sheer bullshit. Want to claim they have thousands of medical personnel on the ground, I'll buy that...
21. The Miami Herald is the exception, as to McClatchy papers. The MH are lying
scumbags on ANYTHING to do with the Latin American left. McClatchy acquired them, in the Knight-Ridder deal. They didn't create them--and I would imagine that the better Knight-Ridder journalists who got acquired by McClatchy are appalled at the sheer brainlessness of the garbage that the Miami Herald publishes about Latin America.
The Miami Herald has also been laying off and buying out reporters over the last year--bad news in the news business!
http://www.bizjournals.com/sacramento/stories/2008/08/25/daily47.html
It means even poorer writing and reporting, more sensationalism, and dwindling resources for any kind of investigation--as well as bad economic news--and is a reflection of both the public's growing disgust with "controlled" news and the newspaper business' failure to successfully use internet advertising technologies.
4. They probably have the Iraqi WMDs there
And are training with them right now!
And the answer is yes, this story is a CIA plant, just like the ones in the NYT leading up to the Iraq War.
11. don't feel cheated, we train too....
"In the School of the Americas, located in Fort Benning, were trained many international military officers, some of which were responsible for crimes and murders like Manuel Noriega (U.S.-supported dictator in Panama between 1983 to 1989), Gonzalo Guevara Cerritos (responsible for massacres in San Salvador, like Central American University's massacre in 1989). Graduates of the SOA also include men such as Hugo Banzer Suárez, Leopoldo Galtieri, , Efraín Ríos Montt, Vladimiro Montesinos, Guillermo Rodríguez, Omar Torrijos, Roberto Viola, Roberto D'Aubuisson, Victor Escobar and Juan Velasco Alvarado.<1> <2> Because many of its students have been associated with death squads, and coups in Latin American countries, the school's acronym is reparsed by its detractors as the "School of the Assassins"."
15. More disinformation...
...ginned up by the Bush Administration and spoon-fed to a willing sap in the MSM. Oh, Chavez wont sell US corporations his oil at rock-bottom prices for the usual payoff, so we will smear him as a dangerous socialist and terrorist and use our Colombian proxy to pressure him.
Read "Confessions of an Economic Hit Man" by John Perkins if you want to see how our government treats adversaries like Chavez. How long until the jackals are loosed against him again?
Reading Marx turns one into a 10ft-tall cyborg, with lasers for eyes and various cool bionic parts. Or at least, that's what it did to me......... mileage may vary.
