Todd Palin plans interview in Troopergate probe
By MATT VOLZ – 5 minutes ago

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) — Gov. Sarah Palin's husband is planning to speak to an investigator looking into abuse-of-power allegations against the governor, Todd Palin's lawyer said Saturday. He previously refused to testify under subpoena in a separate probe.

Attorney Thomas Van Flein said he asked the investigator, Anchorage attorney Timothy Petumenos, to reserve the third week of October to interview Todd Palin, but a date has not been set because he is waiting to hear back from Petumenos.

Todd Palin refused to testify under subpoena last month in a separate investigation by the Alaska Legislature. Petumenos is heading a parallel probe by the Alaska State Personnel Board into whether Sarah Palin, the Republican vice presidential nominee, acted improperly when she fired Public Safety Commissioner Walt Monegan this summer.

Both are looking into whether Palin, her husband and her aides pressured Monegan to fire a state trooper who was involved in a contentious divorce from Palin's sister and then fired Monegan when he wouldn't dismiss the trooper. Palin says Monegan was ousted over budget disagreements.

2. The Alaska State Personnel Board , a 3 member panel, was hand-picked by Palin
making Timothy Petumenos, so-called investigator, a Palin pick as well.

Van Flein said the investigation should be handled by the state Personnel Board, not the Legislature, because it's "statutorily mandated" to handle ethics cases. The three-member Personnel Board is appointed by the governor.

4. planning? WTF? There never should have been any question
Edited on Sat Oct-04-08 06:44 PM by SemperEadem
that he was going to answer a constitutionally legal subpoena for him to appear to testify. Being husband of the governor suddenly elevates him above the law? You're damb straight you're appearing and there is no question about that. If Todd Palin spent less time in the governors office and more time paying attention to his family, perhaps he wouldn't have a teenage daughter getting pregnant by a reprobate hockey thug.

Do I get to plan on showing up for jury duty? No!

We have no kings or emperors here--all are subject to the constitution and the laws of this Union.

5. He's not answering the subpoena...
He's decided to be interviewed by Palin's internal investigator (not the legislature).

9. Is this a parallel investigation?
I thought I read that the original one was proceeding, and that they didn't need those witnesses who refused to testify.

16. You are correct...
The original investigation is proceeding without the Palin posse as witnesses... Maybe they have enough evidence to draw conclusions without their participation. However, I don't know what weight a conclusion by the legislature would carry.

12. so, do the rest of us get this luxury or just only spouses of governors?
Did something change in the law where one can pick and choose what they want or don't want to answer?

7. Third week in October??? It's just an effort to delay findings

8. Misleading headline--this is the State Personnel Board, not the legislative subpoena.

10. Why's he being allowed to "plan" an interview?
Shouldn't everyone be allowed to do so when they speak to investigators?

17. Repuks have sucessfully delayed this til after the election.

Palin doesn't want to clear the matter up, eh?
Palin has also taken the "gloves off" by accusing obama of ties
to terrorists??? What a piece of work.

So it looks like we get to speculate that its all true that she
abused her office and is a liar and cowardly bully,
(did someone mention she has bad breath?)

you betcha...
