Obama gaining crucial ground
Polling shifts in some key states
By Brian C. Mooney
Globe Staff / October 4, 2008

With 31 days until the election, Democrat Barack Obama's road to the White House is widening, and Republican John McCain's electoral path is narrowing.

The McCain campaign's decision this week to abandon Democratic-leaning Michigan is the most obvious and dramatic sign, a major tactical retreat that limits the ways he can reach the magic number of 270 electoral votes on Nov. 4.

But McCain is in as bad or worse shape in other battleground states. Barring a dramatic change, he is on course to lose Iowa and New Mexico, both states barely won by President Bush four years ago in his narrow victory over Democrat John F. Kerry. And he and the Republican National Committee this week began pouring money into Indiana and North Carolina, reliably Republican states where the Obama campaign has made strong advances and polls indicate the candidates are roughly tied.

The Obama campaign, meanwhile, has responded this week by significantly increasing its television advertising budget in Indiana and five other states and has even spent $350,000 to air spots continuously on a satellite TV channel, a first for a presidential hopeful.

3. I didn't know that an elector from Minnesota voted for Edwards in 2004
From the Boston Globe story:

"That year, Bush beat Kerry by 35 electoral votes - 286 to 251 (one elector from Minnesota voted for Kerry's running mate, John Edwards)".

4. Honest mistake if memory serves
This one was an honest mistake - not the same as 88 when someone deliberately voted
for Lloyd Bentsen and not Dukakis.

5. They did, but they misspelled it so it was "John Ewards"
I forget exactly who the elector was.

An elector from D.C. in 2000 also didn't vote for Gore, and instead did not cast a ballot.

9. With the next debate's topic being economic ..
.. I can't see how Obama couldn't hit him hard.

After all, didn't we just approve $700 billion to
save this country from the McCaniac financial
collapse?

10. But still being the more "likable" of the two
most people won't vote for the more qualified person, just the one they "like" better. If he can put McCain on the defensive early then Obama will win easily on both counts.

8. Good news!
Obama has to win this thing or the USA is finished IMO. We need a majority in Congress as well to repair all the destruction of the Bush/republican years.

GOBAMA!

14. The Obama Channel on Dish Network is really cool..
I'm starting to see a "click for more" interactive dialog show up during normal Obama ads. When you click the button it tunes to the the 24/7 Obama channel. Very creative use of new technology.

18. That's what Letterman told Brian Willians last night
But Williams disagreed and said it was more like Eisenhower-Kennedy which made absolutely no sense. First of all Eisenhower never ran against Kennedy, but even if he meant Nixon that made no sense either because then he was comparing McSame to a young Nixon with a popular president in office. When in reality GW has all the popularity of Hoover. All I'm trying to say is that Brian Williams is much dumber than most bloggers out there, so much for a free and fair press.

19. I am VER pleased with the 'Obama Channel', but that is not enough ...
We have discussed this here before, and I am going to again scream out : INFOMERCIAL !

IF we can learn how to pump our penises full of fresh blood, and how to buy houses for someone else's penny : We can learn what Obama has planned for his first hundred days ...

We can learn who he would promote as leaders of the various department administrations ... We can see how he will change government so it WORKS for regular people ...

The cable channel is wonderful, but if people don't know it's there, then they will never see it ....

INFOMERCIALS ! ...

27. Really ?
Ever seen one ?

Exactly who do they target ?

Where did you get the data that infomercials target those who are unlikely to go to the polls ?

It is my view that the purveyors of infomercials are simply hoping to catch your eye as you scan the channels ..... NOBODY plans on selecting a channel for the purpose of watching an infomercial .....

Im sorry, but this is impossible to believe ....

20. If it is true about the Neocon vote fixing scheme then Obama
needs to beat McCain by more than 6% in all of these States.
If you subtract that 6% from Obama the race looks far different. Or add it to the GOP you can see the reason for the smug smiles on his face since MCCain thinks he will win regardless. However there is a limit to how much the vote can be rigged (its about 6% give or take a bit) so if we vote by a margin of over 9% then there is a chance that the GOP will not be able to steal this election unlike the last two.

22. More like 9%
like I've mentioned before. I read that 9% is the magical number to beat the race factor. (i.e. that Obama needs 9 points in polls to to effectively beat McCain for real.)

VR has an exclusive interview with former Diebold contractor Chris Hood which talks about many disturbing actions by Diebold during prior elections, including illegal, uncertified and unreported patches, and improper feeding of tabulation results by Diebold Chief Bob Urosevitch. This interview was prepared for a major news program special that was supposed to air two weeks before the 2006 midterm election. At the last moment, however, the special was killed by the corporate media. Check out this important ten minute interview.

McCain is against Ethanol, of course he is going to lose Iowa. Now if we can get him to be against soy derived products we can take Ohio too!!!
