Biden "Bridge to Nowhere" moment already a campaign ad
Source: CNN

(CNN) – Only hours after the year’s sole vice presidential debate ended, the Obama campaign released a television ad highlighting one of Joe Biden's more memorable lines of the night.

The 30-second spot, called 'Can't Explain,' shows Biden's exchange with Sarah Palin over John McCain's healthcare plan. Biden noted McCain will pay for his proposed $5,000 tax credit to families with taxes on every individual with an employer-sponsored healthcare plan.

"I call that the ultimate Bridge to Nowhere," Biden said of the plan to laughter from the crowd in what was a clear reference to the infamous (Alaska) pork-barrel project. (It's a line Biden has repeatedly used on the trail.)

The moment was among the more memorable ones in a debate that featured few knock-out jabs. Palin, a one-time supporter of the bridge project, did not respond to the line but was seen smiling....

(Note: Video of ad at link.)

2. This was such a GREAT moment in the debate.
During the primary, people often doubted the rapid-response of Team Obama. It should be obvious to anyone now that Senator Obama just never chose to attack his party opponents back then.

Once again, when things need to be well-done in a hurry, they demonstrate why the Obama-Biden campaign is so incredibly well organized, disciplined, and on the mark.

3. The only zinger that got a genuine laugh from the audience.
I was laughing too when I heard that on the radio. Bravo, Joe!

4. It really is a ridiculous plan McCain has. Then again, that's par for the GOP these days.
Ridiculous... but there are a few cronies making some serious $$$$$, and that's what matters to the GOP.

5. Yes, the intelligence and maturity of Biden is above Palin's by a long shot.

7. THAT'S what I'm talkin' about!!
The McCain 'health care plan' is the biggest stinkbomb in his whole platform and that needs to be hammered home ten times a day in every battleground state between now and the election. Thank you Biden for providing the video.

C ya,

9. There is no way that's anything but great.
What I think would be good as well, given the RNC's cutting of an anti-Biden ad, would be one specifically slamming Palin on her Bride-To-Nowhere lie.

I'd have told him to mention that Wasilla Alaska (pop 7000) has only one McDonalds restaurant but 43 meth labs were busted last year alone.

Then I'd have mentioned how biatch Palin left the town 20 million dollars in dent from the hockey rink when she left office. problem was she forgot to buy up all the land before the town went ahead with the project. DUMB business idea!

Actually there are two McDonalds in Wasilla but only one stand alone shop. The second is in the Walmart.

11. This increase in taxable income has not been made clear enough..
and not loud enough either. Every single working American with an empoyer provided health plan is going to get hit up the wazoo with a massive tax increase.

12. What about the GOP response to this...... ?
"Oddly, instead of shying away from an outright lie told by Joe Biden last night, the Obama campaign appears willing to double-down on his reckless dishonestly. It’s a lie for the Obama campaign to say John McCain’s health care plan taxes health care, when the McCain plan clearly provides the equivalent tax break for every American," he said. "Whether Barack Obama and his running mate are voting in favor of higher taxes on Americans making just $42,000 or telling bald faced lies, Americans know failed leadership when they see it."

15. I also liked the way he responded to Palin's charge that Obama is dangerous
Edited on Sat Oct-04-08 07:04 AM by Tanuki
by pointing out multiple ways that McCain's plans and policies are dangerous, so she couldn't succeed in planting that particular seed of doubt. He was impressively deft in doing that.

edit for typo

16. $5000 tax credit, yeah, right ..........................
I would like to know how many tax returns report a tax liability of $5000 or more to the IRS each year. Note: You have to pay $5000 or more in federal taxes in order to qualify for a $5000 tax credit. And is there some kind of formula that kicks in to reduce the credit? Are there some strings attached? Do singles qualify? If you have Medicare, do you qualify? Will states honor this credit as they do some deductions on the Federal return?

Why doesn't McCain, and Obama for that matter, create a sample section of the IRS Handbook that explains how to fill out pertinent sections of the 1040 and have that accompany their 'detailed' plan to help you, the voter.

I, and you, need to know how it works where 'the rubber meets the road' and nowhere else.

17. Great...McCain's healthcare plan is the ultimate republican strategy to hide tax increases...
...back during the Reagan years, when he claimed the "biggest tax reform and cut in history", I was unemployed with $10,000 income. Under the Reagan reform MY TAXES WENT UP!

Republicans "lower" explicit taxes but then raise the less obvious taxes. The way Reagan did it was to cut "income" taxes but also added these two major INCREASES:

All credit card and other interest except for mortgage interest was no longer deductable
UNEMPLOYMENT benefits, paid into through payroll deductions (and EARNED already) became taxable

McCain's plan is similar - ADD a tax on the portion of healthcare benefits that employers pay and then give a credit of "$5000", which is woefully inadequate.
