McCain reverses course on bailout credit
Source: The Hill

Republican presidential nominee John McCain on Thursday reversed course and claimed credit for bringing House Republicans back to the negotiating table as Congress worked on a Wall Street bailout.

The Arizona senator told Fox News that he was “very helpful in getting the House Republicans at the table that had not been there,” adding that he is “proud to have played a role in this.”

McCain’s comments stand in contrast with what he said Sunday on ABC’s “This Week with George Stephanopoulos.” At the time, he indicated that it was not his involvement that brought GOP lawmakers to the negotiating table.

“It wasn’t because of me that the Republicans in the House of Representatives got into the negotiating and bargaining, which was vital,” McCain said, adding that the House GOP “did it themselves. And I'm proud of the work that they did.”

So, he didn't claim credit for the bailout he supported, and now he does claim credit for the bill he opposes?

14. no, of course not
his years as a POW make him an economicalator expert on things best left for states to decide, such as the media that I read every day, gee like if we didn't read the media lots of people would lose their jobs and then who would we have left to fight a war on global warming in Iraq? this is series, but we have to have level heads, which is why I'm supporting the blockhead bill that will flatten heads to make them level and like that there.

I mean the "I'm not an astronaut but I know a lot about space" thing? I thought that was a youtube parody.

Nobody, including astronauts, knows a lot about space. We don't even understand the Earth very well. On Mars we're barely scratching the surface (pun intended). We've flown past some of the other planets and shot some grainy pictures. All we really know beyond our own solar system is some fairly advanced guessing.

McCain's Iowa Interview: More Pointless than Peevish
Andrew Romano

But the fact is, only uncommitted voters matter at this point. They know that McCain isn't, as he likes to say, "Miss Congeniality." And if they ever end up watching the Des Moines Register web cast--which is less than likely--they'll probably be surprised to find that the bloodthirsty sociopath their liberal friends were blabbing about actually sounds like a relatively straightforward (if impatient) guy slogging through his ten-millionth interview. McCain's response to a question about whether he's received taxpayer-backed health care, for instance, is supposedly "dripping with sarcasm." "You know, that's an interesting statement, isn't it?" he says. "I have never been an astronaut, but I think I know the challenges of space. I have never done a lot of things in my life that I think I am familiar with."

McCain's point--that he can support a market-based health-care system instead of Obama's plan to expand government care even though, as a veteran and a senator, he receives government care himself--is perfectly valid, and I doubt that undecideds will dock him points for displaying a bit of pique to make his point.

5. It really has to be asked: Is McCain's mental instability...

... just an ordinary effect of the stress and fatigue of campaigning?

Or is there a more serious issue here?

*I'll still say FUCK and any other word I wish no matter the faux outrage by some here, of whom I wonder about. It's just a word for pete's sake, and if you think it will corrupt or harm you, you need help! Teutonic origin deemed by society as vulgar, where other words meaning the same thing are A-OK.
Personally, taking the Lord's name in vain bothers me -- now THAT'S true swearing, but I am not about to tell them that I have the dictatorial right to limit their lexicon. The whole thing is ridiculous.

From "The Taming of the Shrew":

from...Act IV, Scene 5

Petruchio: I say it is the moon.

Katherina: I know it is the moon.

Pet: Nay then, you lie; it is the blessed sun.

Kat: Then God is blest, it (is) the blessed sun,
But sun it is not, when you say it is not:
And the moon changes even as your mind.
What you will have it nam'd, even that it is,
And so it shall be so for Katherine.

(snip)

enter Vincentio, (an old gentleman of Pisa)

Pet: Good morrow gentle mistress, where away?
Tell me, sweet Kate, and tell me truly too,
Hast thou beheld a fresher gentlewoman?
(snip...sorry)
Sweet Kate, embrace her for her beauty's sake.

(snip)

Kat: Young budding virgin, fair, and fresh and sweet
Whither away, or (where) is thy abode?
Happy the parents of so fair a child!
Happier the man, whom favorable stars
Allots thee for thy lovely bedfellow!

Pet: Why how now, Kate, I hope thou art not mad.
This is a man, old wrinkled, faded, withered,
And not a maiden as thou say'st he is.

Kat: Pardon me, old father, my mistaking eyes,
That have been so bedazzled with the sun,
That every thing I look on seemeth green;
Now I perceive thou art a reverent father.
Pardon, I pray thee, for my mad mistaking.
