China milk scandal firm asked for cover-up help
01 Oct 2008 01:29:53 GMT

By Ben Blanchard

BEIJING, Oct 1 (Reuters) - A Chinese company at
the centre of a scare over tainted milk powder had
asked for government help to cover up the extent
of the problem, state media said on Wednesday in
the newest development in a widening scandal.

-snip-

China has already said the city government in
Shijiazhuang, home to the Sanlu Group whose
contaminated milk sparked a recall now spread
worldwide, sat on a report from the company about
the tainting for more than one month.

In Communist Party newspaper the People's Daily,
Shijiazhuang city government spokesman Wang
Jianguo said they had been asked by Sanlu for
help in "managing" the media response to the case
when first told of the issue on Aug. 2.

"Please can the government increase control and
coordination of the media, to create a good
environment for the recall of the company's
problem products," the paper cited the letter from
Sanlu as saying.

2. you cannot trust these people
Edited on Tue Sep-30-08 09:52 PM by CountAllVotes
I am now convinced.

I am throwing out everything I have in my household that is consumable and from China.

The problem is this: Made in the USA, etc. products may have ingredients that are from China. They don't tell you about this on the label. We need to know where these consumable items are from from!

:scared: :puke:

6. We eat nothing that is processed
We mainly buy what's on the outer edges of the grocery store. Fresh preferably local or organic fruit / veggies, cheeses, goats milk, UNprocessed meats, luckily the store we shop at gets their meat from a local butcher shop. Eggs from the neighbor, veggies from the home garden.

You don't have any way of knowing what you are getting when you buy processed foods. A vegetarian I know insists that they got very sick from melamine in the wheat gluten which is used alot in the prepared vegetarian foods. This was when they were poisoning the pets with the toxic wheat gluten so its entirely possible.

7. It is not just China. While you are throwing out stuff
might as well throw out any food coming from the US, or Latin America, or Canada, or just about anywhere.

Everyone in the world knows that the US is no longer checking food items since the GOP has just about dismantled the FDA. The US has become the world's dumping ground for unregulated food products.

8. China admits to 50,000 sickened babies
I'd say make that 500,000 sickened/dead babies! They lie like sh*t just like they do here!

I have not heard of a bunch of dead/sickened babies here (yet).

The pet food scenario was indeed just the tip of the iceberg. It trickles down as you've probably noticed.

I wonder if listing where the ingredients in the products come from will help? I just do not know.

The fact is that this melamine crap is all over the world. It is a very devious way to get rid of toxic garbage which is what melamine is.

As for anti-freeze in Petromalt (a very common cat hairball treatment; my latest "discovery" in this journey), I guess we just "won't go there" being it is seemingly "not important". It states on a tube of Petromalt it is Made in the USA but the ingredients are not. It contains .5% protein ( :wtf: ) and why protein (aka "melamine") would be in Petromalt is beyond me except as a convenient way to get rid of more toxic waste from China. :puke:

I think the best thing to do personally is to cook and eat foods that you buy and prepare yourself and avoid all processed foods (which is not easy).

9. How about that tomato scare which wasn't really about tomatoes
In fact the FDA couldn't figure out why hundreds got sick and about six or seven died. First they blamed tomatoes and said since so many come from Mexico perhaps we should blame them. However they couldn't find even one contaminated tomato. They started crazily blaming all kinds of different vegetable ingredients, then just decided to stop looking for the cause and declare the case closed.

Yes, China is a problem, but the US is also a problem. Come on, when the Feds start suing farmers to stop them from checking their cattle for Mad Cow, we have to figure out we are on our own and it is all a crap shoot.

10. avoid red meat
you'd think this would solve this problem but no, it doesn't. Even Jiffy Corn Muffin mix has beef broth in it (can you say Mad Cow again?).

Yes, I agree, we are on our own. However, I believe it is helpful to at least spread information as it is discovered.

Damn me for it if you like. I really do care is my problem I guess.

11. I'm on your side
I care also and yes we should spread the info, but not limit the blame to one country.

China just so happens to export a majority of the world's food products. Every country is having a problem with contaminated food, mainly from unregulated pollution and unregulated capitalism.

3. Hey Kids! Free Milk Candy w/every Thomas Engine!
Melamine and Lead for alllllllllllllllllllll…………………………
Just look they are begging for help: "Please can the government increase control and coordination of the media, to create a good environment for the recall of the company's problem products," it must be time to send over Rove and Cheney! See, they just can't handle this kind of crisis w/out American help: "China has a poor record when it comes to ignoring or glossing over bad news."
Wow, glad I don't live in a society like THAT! Maybe someone should forward this post to someone in China so they can know what's going on… Thank God America has such an Open and Transparent Government and Public Media!
