Poll: GOP blamed for failed bailout
Source: Politico

Respondents to a new ABC News/Washington Post poll blame Republicans over Democrats by more than a two-to-one margin for Monday’s failed vote on the $700 billion bailout package.

The poll, conducted Monday evening after the vote, reported 44 percent of respondents said the GOP is “mainly responsible” for the failed deal. Twenty-one percent blamed Democrats while 17 percent said the two parties share equal blame. The survey interviewed 424 registered voters and has a five percent margin of error.

Forty-seven percent of those polled oppose the bailout while 45 percent said they support it. Only a slim majority, 51 percent, expressed confidence that the proposed bailout would prevent the current financial crisis from getting worse.

But while Americans are split over the bailout, a vast majority, 88 percent, said the failed vote “could lead to a more severe economic decline.”

The public thinks McCain and the Republicans screwed up the bailout.

Thank goodness they've got Sarah Palin to fall back on...

19. But she can see Russia!
Joe Biden can't see Russia from his home in Delaware. The only foreign country you can see from Delaware is New Jersey.

20. And she was mayor of Wasilla
which is a part-time job. And there's a City Manager who actually manages the city. Okay, it's not really a city. Most places would call it a village. I think my college dorm had a larger population than Wasilla.

But anyway, Joe Biden was never mayor of Wasilla, was he? And has he ever put lipstick on a bulldog? No. No, he has not. With all these advantages, Palin may make Biden scream during their debate, just before his head explodes.

21. Not exactly a "village"
I live in a place where the population is around 400. Now THAT'S a village, LOL. Wasilla has almost 10,000 people; that's a small city or a large town, depending on the state. In Alaska, it's the fourth-largest city.

The size of the place isn't the issue; it's what she did to screw it up, that proves her lack of leadership abilities.

7. I want to see more of this.
We won't be able to make the necessary changes to avoid future problems if we don't have public support to fight off the spin from the Republicans.

Just about first time I've agreed with them about anything. They are finally on the right side of something. Even if it is by accident.

14. I agree with your sentiments, but also was wondering if people would see it as put in OP.
"blame the repubs". It is about the framing of the issue, not about any understanding of it.

10. not to be overconfident, but when people wake up, they really...
...wake up. Through all of the confusion surrounding this bailout, it came through loud and clear just who was full of shit and who wasn't. I'm encouraged.

11. Looks like the American public in general has woken up to the fact that...
2001 to 2006, with a Republican controlled government, owning the WHite House, the Congress, and the Supreme Court, removed all checks-and-balances. This allowed nearly everything that was passed in that time to build up over the years to what happened late last year, and this year.

12. Well, yeah, but . . .
That won't stop the popular media from showing every whiny-ass titty baby Republican with a poopy diaper whining about how it's all that mean Nancy Pelosi's fault. There's a narrative to change, and the Big Media Boys will do their best to change public perception.

the failed vote." Though Democrats must take some of the credit, too.

22. Only 51% +/-5% think give the bailout a chance of working.
Which means that about 25% of those surveyed are giving the Repukes the CREDIT for stopping the POS bailout.
