Dems mixed on Lieberman censure
Source: Stamford Advocate

Ellen Camhi, chairwoman of the Stamford Democrats, said she does not pay attention when hometown U.S. Sen. Joseph Lieberman appears on television campaigning for Republican presidential candidate John McCain.

"I try to avoid it when he's on," Camhi said. "I have enough problems with my blood pressure."

But Camhi does not support the efforts of some members of the state party's central committee to censure Lieberman for speaking at the Republican National Convention.

"I don't think it's worth doing," she said. "I feel just the same as they do. I feel betrayed. I feel angry. . . . But we don't need to be giving Joe some more attention. I'm sure he knows how everyone feels, and it's not going to change him."

Nevertheless, Camhi and every town committee chairman in Connecticut is being asked to circulate a resolution condemning the four-term senator's speech and urging him to resign from the party.

1. The problem is, Joe doesn't know how everyone feels
He believes he is right and that anyone who doesn't stand with him is an idiot. Since everyone is silent on the issue, there is no reason for him to believe otherwise.

11. Let Lieberman have a dose of reality then, let him swing out there by himself
...no leadership position, no power, no influence...just his delusions of self importance,

Hey, he could always retire to Israel!

2. Urging him to resign from WHAT party? The Independent party?
'cause that's what he is. He already quit the Democratic Party when he ran against Lamont. So what's the point of censuring him, exactly? Does he not have a right to endorse McLame now? He's an Independent who "usually caucuses with the Democrats." And for some strange reason has not lost his place on an important committee.

3. He's not a member of CT for Lieberman anymore
Lieberman got booted out of that party... so, he is still an official member of the Democratic Party.

5. Seppuku! (Don't need no stinkin "party.)
Columbia Encyclopedia: HARA-KIRI
(här'ə-kēr'ē, hăr'ə–) , the traditional Japanese form of honorable suicide, also known by its Chinese equivalent, seppuku. It was practiced by the Japanese feudal warrior class in order to avoid falling into enemy hands. Around 1500, it became a privileged alternative to execution, granted to daimyo and samurai guilty of disloyalty to the emperor. The condemned man received a jeweled dagger from the emperor. He selected as his second a faithful friend, received official witnesses, and plunged the dagger into the left side of his abdomen, drew it across to the right, and made a slight cut upward; his second then beheaded him with one stroke of a sword, and the dagger was returned to the emperor. Around 1700, it became permissible to go through a semblance of disembowelment prior to beheading.

9. The Senate itself doesn't have the right reason(s) to censure Lieberman.
But come November 5th the Senate Democrats do have enough other options such as taking away any post that gives him extra benefits.

15. We retain control of the Senate
due to a law passed by Repukes after Jim Jeffords deserted them, we would retain control of the Senate. Rubbing their noses in this stupid piece of law would be another upside to booting Joe.
