New Yorker Cover Mocks Palin's Claim Of Foreign Policy Experience
Edited on Tue Sep-30-08 01:03 AM by Richardo
Source: Huffington Post

Gawker and Marc Ambinder note that the New Yorker is poking some fun at Sarah Palin for her rather dubious claim that Alaska's proximity to Russia gives her foreign policy experience.

As long as we're getting particular here.

42. According to Dictionary.com, Apropos =
Dictionary.com Unabridged (v 1.1) - Cite This Source - Share This
ap·ro·pos /ˌæprəˈpoʊ/ Pronunciation Key - Show Spelled Pronunciation Pronunciation Key - Show IPA Pronunciation
–adverb 1. fitting; at the right time; to the purpose; opportunely.
2. Obsolete. by the way.
–adjective 3. opportune; pertinent: apropos remarks.
—Idiom4. apropos of, with reference to; in respect or regard to: apropos of the preceding statement.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Which is how it was used, I believe... even if slightly misspelled.

I still think she was actually trying to say caricature. She couldn't think of mock and she couldn't pronounce caricature. During the VP debate, let's pay attention and see what kind of vocabulary she uses. Any multi-syllabic words at all? Any college level words? Any tenth grade words? Any words George Bush wouldn't understand?

This was about 20 years ago. The one you posted was titled "A New Yorker's View of the World". I remember "A Californian's View of the World", among others. Almost everyone I knew had one of these posters in their room.

40. It's the first thing I thought of
The New York view of the world from '76 showed the self-centeredness of the stereotypical NYC resident, this shows the distorted view of the candidate in much the same way.

16. This one dimensional cover in no way compares to New Yorker's hostile cover of the Obamas.
To quote a reply on the HuffPost thread:
"Where are the wolves with no legs, the skinned moose, the kids like the lady in the shoe, the skinned Caribou, the bridge to nowhere, the church with the rapture, the Pipeline to nowhere soon? If this was their attempt to show equal irreverence, it missed by a friggin mile."
I add, where is the portrait of her buddy, Ted Stevens? Shadow Governor, First Dud, Todd in the Governor's office phoning while typing an email? Oldest son with his Oxycontin supply, and a disabled school bus showing through a window, and on and on.

21. the new yorker cover of the obamas was satire about the media whereas this mocks the candidate
herself.

if anything this is a far more partisan cover.

23. True, but it gets at the nub of her idiocy
to include all of that would make her seem more of a threat. To sketch out her very candidacy with so much attention to detail might dignify the absurdity.

I think the understatement is quite a skewer.

24. Oh for fuck's sake, not this tired, ignorant bullshit again
That New Yorker cover was MOCKING how ignorant right-wingers viewed Barack and Michelle. It was NOT an attack on the Obamas themselves.

30. The Russians Are Coming, The Russians Are Coming
How about a remake of the 1966 movie? A Russian sub grounds off shore in the Cook Inlet and the crew end up in Wasilla looking for assistance.
