Texans Want Hurricane Relief Attached to Stopgap Spending Bill

Emergency aid for areas devastated by hurricanes Ike and Gustav should be rolled into the continuing resolution that Congress must clear to keep the government running next month, rather than another economic stimulus package, Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison said Tuesday.

"It should be a disaster package that stands on its own that goes into the ," the Texas Republican said. "There's just too many problems with the stimulus package, and getting agreement on that in a week I think is going to be very difficult." (Congress is rushing to adjourn at the end of next week.) ...
