Police return pot to patient three years later
Source: The Orange County Register

HUNTINGTON BEACH- It was like Christmas Day for Jim Spray. He giggled with glee as he tore into brown paper bags as if they were presents.

These bags, however, were filled with jars of his medical marijuana and other paraphernalia that had been stored for nearly three years at the city's police department.

A court order today forced officials to give it back, marking the second time in a year that Huntington Beach police have had to return seized marijuana to a patient after court rulings stated that the marijuana should not have been seized in the first place.

"That's a chunk of hash," said Spray, a 52-year-old trade show decorator from Huntington Beach. A tall, stocky police official watched as the medical marijuana patient inspected a tiny eye shadow-sized container full of hashish.

4. No
Mold can make you sick as a dog.
And if the pigs were feeling spiteful that could be the least of his problems.

I wouldn't touch it.

5. I'm not so sure about that..

The THC itself, is a spore... actually, when you smoke it, it's not so much the bud that is getting you high as it is the spores ( they look like teeny tiny mushrooms)on the bud. I'm thinking if it was stored in a pretty decent place for all that time, it might have actually INCREASED in potency if the conditions were right... but then again, I'm no expert on the subject by any means and could be way off here.

6. Sorry...
you are way off.

I've known moldy bud up close and personal, and unless it was frozen or vacuum sealed it's in there.

And THC isn't a spore, those "mushrooms" are sugars.

11. Yikes... that was beyond inaccurate...
The THC in marijuana is contained in the resin the plant produces to protect the flowering parts of the plant. The plant does not produce spores it is a seed bearing flowering plant. The plant is also known to have separate genders (although hermaphrodite plants are also common) with the female seed producing plant producing more of the resin than the male pollen producing plants. Thus the female seed producing plants are more desirable to people looking for THC content than their male counterparts. In addition the plant produces more resin and thus greater THC content if it is not pollinated as resin production decreases after seed has been produced. THC does not get any stronger over time - it is prone to decay over time and with prolonged exposure to heat and light. I may have exposed my self a bit here but I felt the need to clarify... misinformation is not our friend.

13. Thank you for clarrifying
I've just been schooled.

I've always been told that the mushroom looking things were spores... and now I know..

But like I said, I am by no means an expert on it.

8. Not if it stayed dry,
and in the jars - which are probably sealed mason jars.

If the police had poisoned his pot, do you think that they would keep the evidence?

9. glass jars are one of the best ways to store it.
if properly dried of course.

chances are it was some primo bud, even after 3 years in storage, it's still a helluva lot better than mexican commercial weed. no doubt that hash will still pack a punch.

17. Brownies are the answer
How to prepare marijuana so that it can be consumed
Most recipes call for the making of a certain quantity of "Marijuana Butter", which is then used as butter would normally be used in a cooking situation. THC is not a water-soluble compound, so butter would naturally be a good carrier substance for ingestion. Just substitute butter with "bud butter" next time you bake.

Making marijuana Butter
Melt one pound of butter in a pan. Mix 60-70 (or more grams of thoroughly sifted
pot in it. Let it boil carefully a couple of minutes until the butter has
gotten a green color from the grass. Then squeeze the butter through a fine
strainer. While you use the strain, keep the leaves away in a corner of the
pan by using a spoon. Squeeze hard to get out as much of the butter as possible. Cooking time varies from 10-15 mins to 8 hours at a low simmer. Experiment yourself!

Bud Brownies
2 Eggs
3/4 c Sugar
1 ts Vanilla
1/2 c of marijuana butter or margarine; melted
3/4 c Chocolate; ground
2/3 c Unsifted flour
1/4 ts Baking powder
1/4 ts Salt
1/2 c Walnuts; chopped

Heat oven to 350 degrees F. Using a spoon, stir eggs with sugar and vanilla; add butter. Sift Ground Chocolate with flour, baking powder and salt. Stir into egg mixture; add nuts. Spread into greased 8 or 9" square pan. Bake at 350 degrees F for 20-30 minutes. For extra chewy brownies, use 8" pan and less baking time. For cake like brownies use 9" pan and longer baking. Cut into squares. Eat in moderation!

23. WHOA! Your recipe also
Edited on Wed Sep-17-08 08:04 AM by bitchkitty
contains a unhealthy (and horrible tasting) dose of chlorophyll an leftover nutrients. Here's the best way to make bud butter:

Grind the weed. Put it in a pot with plenty of clean water, and bring it to a boil. Cover it and let it steep for about 30 minutes, then strain out the dirty green water. THEN put your butter and more clean water into the pot with the cleaned bud, and simmer for 3-4 hours. Let it cool, and put it into the fridge until it's completely cold and the butter forms into a solid layer on the top. Lift out that layer of butter and discard the water.

The THC and cannabinoids (sic) are fat soluble. You won't lose anything to the water step, but you will take out the chlorophyll and chemicals, and have a much, much better tasting batch of brownies.

25. you left out the straining step...
once it's simmered for a few hours in the butter/water, you have to strain out the plant matter that remains.

i find that thick rubber gloves and either cheesecloth or clean panty-hose/knee-highs work great. the rubber gloves are to keep your hands from being burnt by the molten mix of butter/weed, as you squueeeeeze it through the cheesecloth.

and instead of brownies, i use the butter to make fudge. :hippie:

26. Doh! I'm a dumb-ass.
Edited on Wed Sep-17-08 02:39 PM by bitchkitty
I find that most of the veggie material settles to the bottom as it cools - and I use a baster to siphon off most of the liquid into a clean container. When I strain the remainder, I DO NOT squeeze the cheesecloth hard - puts nasty taste in the butter. Pouring an extra pint or two of boiling water over the material in the strainer should get anything worth getting.

But you're right - Straining it is a crucial step unless you want crispy bits of pot in your cookies!

That marshallow/chocolate chips standard recipe makes KILLER fudge with bud butter.

I made a batch of oatmeal cookies the other day but instead of raisins I used dried cranberries soaked in orange juice and dark chocolate chips - made with bud butter - they were so good I kept overdosing and sleeping all day!
