Kerry bests 1st primary opponent in 24 years

BOSTON—Sen. John Kerry fended off his first Democratic challenger in nearly a quarter century, handily defeating political newcomer Ed O'Reilly in Tuesday's primary election.

Kerry said he was humbled by the support of Democratic voters and looked forward to the November general election against a Republican opponent.

"There are unfinished fights that we must win and I want to return to Washington to make sure every American has the same great health care that I receive as a senator," Kerry said in a statement. "I have always been honored to be the Junior Senator from Massachusetts."

O'Reilly declined to comment immediately. With 21 percent of the vote tallied, Kerry had a 67 percent to O'Reilly's 33 percent.

2. He's my hero. DUers, do you realize Obama would not be our nominee
if it weren't for John Kerry?

The media in '04 tried to manipulate us into believing John Kerry could not connect with voters. I noticed that, today, certain pundits on cable are saying Barack Obama cannot connect with voters.

The media is wrong both times.

they still take a potshot or two every now and then at Kerry to praise/promote Obama. They complain and moan about the media's treatment towards Obama, yet buy into everything they say about Kerry and blame him for happened in 2004. Go figure.

OTOH, Excellent post! :hi:

9. I couldn't be happier for Senator Kerry at this outcome. The best man won.
Now, I hope the haters and the people holding grudges will come around and support not only Senator Kerry, but our entire Democratic ticket.

Way to go Senator. WooHoo.

Oh, and I am thrill too. Thanks for posting.
