Couric gets second Palin interview ("clear message" to NBC News?)
Source: NYT/AP

NEW YORK (AP) -- Second in the broadcast network competition to talk to Sarah Palin: Katie Couric. The CBS anchor will spend two days on the road with the Republican vice presidential candidate as well as presidential hopeful John McCain, the network said Tuesday.

Couric's interview material will be aired Sept. 29 and 30 on the ''CBS Evening News'' and ''The Early Show.'' It's timed for just before the Oct. 2 vice presidential debate between Palin and Democrat Joe Biden.

ABC's Charles Gibson had the first in-depth network interview with Palin last week. She's also talking to Fox News Channel's Sean Hannity this week....

Awarding Couric the interview also appears to be a clear message from the McCain campaign to NBC News. Republicans have been unhappy with NBC, primarily because of the active support for Barack Obama voiced by MSNBC's Keith Olbermann. So while Gibson and Couric have interviews with Palin, NBC's Brian Williams -- who anchors the top-rated evening news program -- has been snubbed so far.

7. what? did you forget the sarcasm thing?
Couric was never tough. Her day job was to be all perky in the morning for like 20 years. The only thing tough about her is the tough luck she has had transitioning from morning perky blather person to evening news yakker.

9. Notice how they said
"active support for Barack Obama", and not something like "calling out the McCain/Palin campaign on their blatant lies".

My response to them:

16. Well, he did piss off Scarbouroh this morning by insulting Mika
declaring she was an active Obama supporter, so I'm guessing they are baiting them, by saying they'll keep doing that believing it will destroy them...I think they'll get increased viewership if people think they are pro Obama...

12. Bring back the Chicken Suit!
In 1992, the Clinton campaign had volunteers dress up in chicken suits and stand at Bush campaign events to push to message that Bush was too "chicken" to debate. Maybe its time to dust off the suits and suggest Sarah Palin is afraid of a challenging interview.

14. Who wants to interview losers anyway...
Katie was a has-been after a few shows, she still is - just like John and Sarah...I'd bet at this point Brian Williams could get higher ratings interviewing Michelle or Barack, wouldn't even need them together....he should schedule that for the same time and see who blows who out of the water...I think mccain is making a mistake taking on NBC, MTP is still the most watched and his behavior will come off as petulent...

15. Of course they don't want Brian Williams to interview her.
He might not be "deferential" enough.

That won't be a problem with Couric or Hannity.

18. This is great news
A television personality I can't stand pitching softballs to someone else I can't stand. Katie Couric is a living affront to women named Katie. And Sarah Palin doesn't blink, which is kinda creepy. So count me out.

21. I think . . . I'm gonna . . . barfagghghakggg
Gabfest in the Ladies Room!

Maybe they'll both wear their perky twin cheerleader outfits!

I've actually seen very little of the atrocious Katie Couric. I don't have cable, but when I see her on the screen, I gotta change the channel.

I remember her coming into my living room one night early this year. The subject of John McCain came up. "He's such a maaaaverick!" she gushed.

I tried to watch her Hillary Clinton interview, I really did. But instead of going for something of substance, it was all questions about Obama . . . Obama . . . Obama . . . We heard nothing about Hillary.

I don't allow her in my life. She's not worth the effort.

29. I really don't want to get to know Palin. I know enough to know she's corrupt
she's bad for the country...

but...in comment to the article...the ONLY message being sent with Couric interviewing Palin is - Couric is a lightweight and safe for Palin

She'll need them to wipe all the dookie from her face after all the brown-nosin' she'll be doing.

31. They're trying to pressure NBC into firing Olbermann
Williams is just as big of a GOP whore as the others. They're trying to purge TV of the lone Dem. It worked when they went after Donahue. Stay tuned.
