U.S. in push for foreign arms deals: report

Sun Sep 14, 12:36 AM ET

The Bush administration is pushing through a wide range of foreign weapons deals in a bid to rearm Iraq and Afghanistan and contain North Korea and Iran, The New York Times reported.

The deals range from tanks, helicopters and fighter jets to missiles, remotely piloted aircraft and warships, the Times said in its Sunday editions. The weapons and other military equipment foreign sales have totaled more than $32 billion this year, compared with $12 billion in 2005.

While the focus has been on the Middle East, sales extend to northern Africa, Asia, Latin America, Europe and Canada, the Times said.

"This is not about being gunrunners," the Times quoted Bruce Lemkin, the Air Force deputy undersecretary who has coordinated many of the largest sales, as saying. "This is about building a more secure world."

4. Yah, well, that's probably because you take words at their face value,
not the value they acquire when used in lies.

There aren't that many that can make the distinction around anymore.

3. Beside the obvious arms profits, they want to arm and protect the entire pipeline corridor
Edited on Sun Sep-14-08 11:20 PM by Dover
from the Caspian Sea to Turkey, to the Mediterranean, and also down to Israel.

The Organization for Democracy and Economic Development - GUAM (Georgia, Ukraine, Azerbaijan, and Moldova) is the primary protector legion, but they now need to secure the pipeline at the border (Afghanistan) in order to make it feasible again to extend the pipeline there (remember UNOCAL?)

And Israel's portion of the pipeline from Turkey to Israel will also need a security force.

It's insane and economically imprudent to build and attempt to protect these pipelines through that volatile region. It will be a war without end. Throwing good money after bad, and causing all kinds of death and destruction to innocents.

And then there is great profit from creating insecurity and clandestine schemes around the world
that fuels arms sales.

5. That seems to be the deal.
"...great profit from creating insecurity and clandestine schemes around the world

Red Peril (cold war), over. Green Peril (war against Islamic terror), not really working out so good. Renewed Red Peril (recent events in Georgia), a no starter (for now).

It's all to fuel the engine of the Military-Industrial-Media Complex.

We could be fueling an economy dedicated to making a better life for more people, but nooooooo...

And people jibber jabber on about this & that lame-ass politician...

I'm pretty discouraged right now.

6. Good thing arming and training folks in the middle east has never bitten us in the ass...
Especially not that time during the Russian invasion of Afghanistan and we decided under the table we'd arm and train this one dude on how to fight a proxy war on Russia for us. Him and his group worked out swimmingly.

What was that dude's name again? Osama bin somethin'..... and his deal... Al... Al... Al-Cucamonga... something like that.
