(Ron) Paul rejects plea to endorse McCain
Source: The Associated Press

Republican Rep. Ron Paul, the Libertarian-leaning lawmaker who attracted a devoted following in the GOP primaries, said Wednesday he rejected an appeal to endorse John McCain's presidential bid.

And Paul said the request came from Phil Gramm, the former McCain adviser whom the campaign jettisoned after he said the country was a "nation of whiners" about the economy. ...

1. Deeply divided GOP! Quick, MSM, get on that!
Does John McCain have a problem hanging on to the support of old white guys from Texas? Enquiring minds want to know!

2. It'd be funny if he endorsed Obama
On the one hand, that's the sort of endorsement Obama doesn't need, but he does have a devoted cult following who would probably vote for Obama if Dear Leader told them to. Dunno how many votes he'd lose though.

9. Funny, but unlikely.
I used to live in Paul's district (In fact, educating well-meaning folks who might respect his anti-War record was what lead me to rer-egister here last year) and the man is a nut. Rome burned as Nero fiddled and South Texas drowned while Paul gave speeches in Washington DC about what a waste of money FEMA was... in 1999.

The one bright side to his campaign has been that it's taken a lot of votes from McCain, especially here in Texas. Of course now I can't go out most weekends without seeing a bunch of idiots (most of them with sleepy preschoolers being forced to hold "I'd vote For Ron Paul if I were old enough to vote!" signs) shouting at me about the gold standard as I walk through Sundance Square, so it's a bit of a wash.

10. You heard it here first. Great for Paul, great for America. You heard it here on Sept 1st

Here (and I took some grief for pointing this out)

There's no way Paul can edorse McCain and there's no way his voters will vote for McCain. Look at
the 'Scoop' article - on Paul's support in the primaries. They're not voting for McCain in the
fall. Shows you what a POS the media polls are.

12. This is good.
The Paulians are an intense bunch. My local Paulians are very prinicipled anti-war supporters who have no idea that Paul is anti-gay, anti-choice, and xenophobic. It's a populist movement from across the political spectrum. Many of these people would be behind Kucinich if he had the same sort of funding and campaign strategy.

Paul's use of 20th leftist rhetoric and graphic design has instinctively grabbed the imagination of a lot of angry working class whites (and oddly enough even working class jews and latinos in my area). It's a phenomenon to be studied. And we should use some of his techniques in the future. Especially with the under 40 crowd.

Disrupting the Republican party from a position against the global economy, against the police state, and against the war is good for America and a service to the world. The fact that the Republican party is being threatened by their 'liberals' will encourage more internal dissent--especially from the young.

14. Paul isn't much different..
Than any other Libertarian and would probably appoint very conservative SC Justices. Obama is 1000% better.

15. what I love about Ron Paul is that he's dividing the thug ticket
this time around. He refuses to concede or endorse any thug. Both Paul and Barr have a sizeable following.
