Suicide bomber targets Chalabi

A SUICIDE car bomber targeting the convoy of influential Shi'ite politician Ahmed Chalabi killed two people and wounded 17 others overnight, Iraqi police said.

His office said Mr Chalabi, a key adviser to Washington in the build up to the US-led invasion of Iraq in 2003, was in the convoy but was unharmed.

Five of his bodyguards were wounded, police said. The other wounded were civilians. The dead were not immediately identifiable.

The convoy was travelling to one of Chalabi's offices.

2. Surprised he wasn't a target long before now

I could never understand why suicide bombers chose targets such as open-air markets while allowing the biggest enemies of their people - like Chalabi - to go unmolested :shrug:

3. because open air markets get more media attention with the body counts

that these soft targets achieve. Chalabi is surrounded by "secret service" type of hired body guards and is hard to get close to but that wasn't the first attempt on his life.Many many Iraqi officials and their families have been targeted also but no name recognition associated with them.
