'Community organizer' slams attract support for Obama
Source: USA TODAY

ST. PAUL — Some of the loudest roars at the Republican convention this week came when vice presidential pick Sarah Palin and former New York mayor Rudy Giuliani made fun of Democrat Barack Obama's experience as a community organizer. Hours later, the Obama campaign started raising money off the jokes.
"They insulted the very idea that ordinary people have a role to play in our political process," campaign manager David Plouffe wrote Thursday in an early-morning fundraising e-mail. "Let's clarify something for them right now. Community organizing is how ordinary people respond to out-of-touch politicians and their failed policies."

Obama moved to Chicago after college and did church-based organizing to help people who lost their jobs when steel mills closed.

"I guess a small-town mayor is sort of like a community organizer, except that you have actual responsibilities," Palin said to an eruption of cheers. She was mayor of Wasilla, Alaska (population: 9,780) from 1996 to 2002. Giuliani was interrupted with boos and laughter as soon as he uttered the phrase. "OK, OK, maybe this is the first problem on the resume," he said, laughing.

5. How many employees would a town of 5 to 10 thousand have?
A dozen? A couple of dozen? It seems like the responsibilities involved in running a town of that size would not be arduous. I wonder what Putin would make of a president with that experience?

Going from town mayor to president (which would be the case if McCain dies) seems like going from penny ante cribbage to a million dollar poker game. Its kind of a stretch.

10. All Politics is Local

It's obvious the fools who wrote those speeches last night - I'd bet my car that Palin didn't write hers - have forgotten that old chestnut.

Really, it made my blood boil, but at the same time, it proved once and for all that the 1994 Republican takeover has run its course at last. The cadre at the top and their lapdog sycophants have clearly forgotten the groundswell of support they needed to get where they are.

As for all the cheering, jeering types in the audience, all I can say is that tomorrow, it will be their jobs and their lives' work being ridiculed, if it serves the talking points of the day. These people are so arrogant that it takes my breath away.

And what was with all the empty seats? Could MSNBC do a pan? It looked to me like everyone could come down on the floor because there were relatively few people in the building. Kind of like a Marlins-Nationals game. And, hopefully, about as relevant in the course of the season.

I had a fellow I work with try to rile me up last week when Palin was announced as the nominee... approached me all cocky and grinning, trying to tease me about how "Obama had his chance to nominate a woman, but..." I just smiled, stayed composed, and... and... funny, that same guy hasn't spoken a word to me this week. Ooooops.

Peace
PsA
