Lieberman could lose chairmanship, Democrats warn
Source: CNN

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Sen. Joe Lieberman's speech before the Republican National Convention Tuesday night could cost him the chairmanship of a key Senate committee, a top Senate Democratic aide told CNN.

During the speech, the Connecticut senator praised GOP presidential candidate Sen. John McCain and criticized Democratic nominee Sen. Barack Obama.

"The Democratic Caucus will reassess the situation with Sen. Lieberman after the election," Jim Manley, a spokesman for Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, said Wednesday.

Lieberman, the Democratic nominee for vice president in 2000, now calls himself an "independent Democrat," but he remains a member of the Senate Democratic Caucus, which allows him to head the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee.

16. my 1st thought...
COULD?!

Fuck you, Joe.
We need to take Joe for a ride on the Jersey turnpike...and then take the canolis. (figuratively, of course....I don't want anymore black helicopters flying over my house).
If Reid & Co can't clip his ass now for voting reasons, they should absolutely drill him in the press and exclude him as best they can until we win the solid majority in November. Then drill him. Of course, by then Joe will have affixed the 'R' next to his name anyway.

Oh...did I mention?
Fuck you, Joe.

21. Hmmm........
It seems to me that Progressives used to welcome ALL shades of
opinion -- now it seems we're doing our best to drive all
dissenting opinions OUT of the Democratic Party. I hope I'm
wrong -- "Progressive" means something good in the
march of American history, and I'd be terribly sorry to see it
go sour.

65. Lieberman's behavior
and inaction as Sen from CT has allowed the administration in charge, one that has without a doubt caused a near complete erotion of personal freedoms of thought and action, to continue their pillaging. He must be stopped. His speech at the RNC is the ultimate act in his complicity of said erotions.
Got it?
This is not just some fucking guy talking from a soap box on mainstreet.
He's the '00 Dem VP candidate. His ticket lost is the most controversial election in my lifetime. And now he's speaking at the RNC, with hopes to continue an immoral and unjust war that has killed nearly 5,000 of my countrymen, injured tens of thousands of other Americans, and countless Iraqis....100K+? Easily.
Got it?

And you're progressive? Progressive and aggresive are not mutually exclusive.

68. Lost Freedom?
One thing I've noticed, on this and other progressive forums, is the assertion of lost freedom (one post even comparing Bush the Younger to the evil Emperor of the "Star Wars" movies!) Yet, here we are -- we can say pretty much anything we please with COMPLETE impunity -- and isn't it fun?

Staying alive, well and vibrant entails not harboring vipers in our bosom nor under our tent, no matter how big it is.
Let the 'cons have Lie-berman, we already booted him, and well-deserved it was too.
...may I add he fits right in that snake den.

Since when did Progressives "welcome" whining, backstabbing, prevaricating, treasonous, conservative warmongers?

Tell me, when have we been so insane? :eyes:

Two posts and you already suck at attempting to manipulate us.
Go try singing Kumbayah (sic?) with your poor, misunderstood friends; or if you're actually a bona fide Progressive IRL, (doubtful), let them in your tent.
We'll cart your abused, bloody corpse out the next morning and give you a decent burial

.... we've merely learned that we can no longer afford the luxury of civility when our country is being rendered to nothing by the warmongering neocons of which Lieberman is a prime example.

Joe doesn't care about the USA he cares about his homeland, Israel, and harbors the mistaken belief that the iraq war helps them in some way and that's all he needs to know.

He is not a Democrat and it is time we stop acting like he is.

89. No. Not now. There are more important things at stake.
If we pull Lieberman's committee chairs, he will caucus with the Republicans.

Doing so would give the GOP the majority, and allow Bush to open the special "open ONLY if Lieberman becomes a Republican" envelope that's full of judges who'd make Samuel Alito look like Abby Hoffman.

I'd rather keep Lieberman for a few more months, even though by all rights we should get rid of him, than keep a bench full of Federalist Society judges for the rest of their lives.

Now...right after we seat the new, safely-Democratic Senate, we can tell Holy Joe to go over with the Repukes where he belongs. Right now, we really can't.

As soon as the Dems have a clear majority in the senate he is done. He is off all the committees he relies on. He has no more support what so ever. His only function for the Dems is to maintain a majority. Without that he would have been dust years ago.

61. When it come to LIEberman and loosing his chairmanship
the words "could loose" are NOT appropriate. It should be said that he WILL loose his chairmanship. Time to put some pressure on Harry, FAX, Email, snail mail and phone calls.

64. Yeah, I Bet Lieberman Is Losing Sleep, Contemplating The Wrath Of Harry Reid.

Anybody holding their breaths for Reid to give Traitor Joe the sort of punishment he deserves? I didn't think so....

69. Could?? Could?? What the fuck, could??? Harry Reid is a frickin' joke. God, I hope we get rid of
him next election cycle.

With "Democrats" like Lieberman and Reid, who needs Republicans?

87. Why some people think Democrats are wimpy
Do you think that any Republican legislator who was a featured speaker at the DNC would be allowed to remain in the party for five minutes?

92. Best thing about voting Mark Warner into office
is that it will allieviate the need for Lieberman to uphold our slim majority in the Senate and we can toss him off the committees.

94. Translation: We'll still need his help if the Repukes win
But if they don't, he may as well just become a Repug himself. Here's hoping he's hitched his star to the wrong wagon and will be stuck in the minority for years to come. Or at least become irrelevant (and not chairman of ANYTHING if he remained independent), which to him with his ego would be intolerable.
