50,000 expected to protest RNC
Source: Raw Story

If you thought protests outside 2008's Democratic National Convention were loud and proud, you ain't seen nothing yet. So say organizers preparing for the 2008 Republican National Convention, set to take place in St. Paul, Minnesota.

Organizers estimate 50,000 protesters are getting ready to demonstrate outside the RNC, in the largest anti-war protest planned so far this year.

"We have word that people are coming on busses and carpools, people are flying in from all over the country," said Katrina Plotz, an organizer for an RNC protest group. "We are expecting the police to uphold our right to demonstrate, to speak out against the war."

1. Obama had 84,000 supporters - McCain will get 50,000 protesters - hmm
How is it again that McCain even shows up on the polls?

13. my poll theory
Edited on Fri Aug-29-08 06:53 PM by ksimons
I have a theory that only older people still have land-lines and answer the phone without screening and talk to pollsters because they are damn lonely as all their Republican children are too busy for them. Thus, the only ones answering poll questions, giving opinions and making their voice heard are old Republicans without cell phones.

Thus, the crowds you see at Obama events are the actuality of his popularity, but those folks are too smart to pick up the phone from 'blocked number' and chat.

No one I know 100%, I mean it, has ever answered to a pollster. Of course option two: Think about it. How much cheaper would polls be to run if you simply called say 2% of the number of people you were supposed to call, multiply the number by 50 and call it a day. Plus, in order to keep it interesting (so both sides continue to pay for polls and remain interested in having them more often) you slight the results to make it always back and forth and up and down slightly. You know - the salivating dog trick.

So, given how corrupt politics are, our own government administration and probably every corner of Wall Street, is it such a stretch to think that the pollster industry is also corrupted by money.

17. Yeah, I agree. The 50/50 polls are bullshit. And if they could get away with doctoring
the exit polls, in 2004--changing a Kerry win to a Bush win, to conform the exit polls to the results of Diebold/ES&S's 'TRADE SECRET' voting machines--and get away with it, why wouldn't they escalate, and just rig all the polls, say, as psyops prep for Stolen Election III?

Nothing to stop them--nothing--from lying about it with their pre-written narratives and rigged polls, easy--EASY!--capability of stealing millions of votes, undetected--and then lying about how that happened.

Let's hope that the 50/50 polls are merely a prelim to shaving Obama's mandate, rather than stealing it from him (and us), again. I think they'd be flirting with outright rebellion if they put this pair of asshats they're nominating into the White House. But I have another theory that the far rightwing nutball multi-billionaires who are running things are out to insult us. Bush and Cheney are an insult--a "wipe your faces in shit" kind of insult--to teach us that we are not so great; our ideas of good government, social justice and peace, our loyalty to the rule of law, our parents' and grandparents' enormous achievements, such as middle class prosperity, the defeat of the Nazis, and the creation of the United Nations, and our own achievements--of civil rights, of women's rights, of gay rights, of revolt against unjust war, of putting men on the moon, are all just shit.

I fear that they are not done with insulting us (not to mention looting and killing us and others).

Bush laughed--he laughed--and joked about finding WMDs under the Oval Office rug--while our soldiers and many Iraqis were being blown to bits; while helpless prisoners and innocent people were being tortured; while children were in hospitals (or not in hospitals) screaming with their limbs blown off--all his doing. To the fatcats at one Republican banquet he said, "I'm glad to be here with the have's and the have more's."

This man, Cheney and the others are so offensive as to be beyond belief. Can you imagine what Thomas Jefferson would think of them, if he were alive? Or FDR? Or Martin Luther King? Or Bobby Kennedy?

It feels as if these handpicked horrors, Bush and Cheney, are a mirror which the rightwing fuckwad billionaires are trying to aim at us, saying: "This what you deserve! --a president who makes jokes about the deaths of soldiers and innocent civilians--AND YOU CAN'T DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT, CUZ...NYAH-NYAH-NA-NYAY-NYAH, WE OWN THE VOTING MACHINES, WE OWN THE VOTING MACHINES, HA-HA ON YOU-YOU...NYAN-NYAH-BANANA."

Like we are up against the grade school bully, who can only think of poo-poo pee-pee jokes to insult and degrade us, and who has hold of our lunch bag, and just keeps repeating the insults and degradations over and over, and we are, indeed, helpless to prevent it.

So I worry, you know. Bullies are not easy to deal with. They go overboard, heaping abuse upon you, and won't stop. And there is nothing standing in their way of continuing to bully us with stupid, heinous, illiterate beasts as "our leaders." They have the ability to do it. The voting system is in their control, and completely non-transparent. And the Corpo media, and the Democrats, have, in the past, just trotted along happily, in the trail of the bullies. There is no one to defend us. We must, collectively, somehow, defend ourselves. And we must do it peacefully, cuz they have all the rocks and baseball bats.

Streets outside overflowing with protesters while inside a whole bunch of empty seats bear witness to McCain's acceptance of his nomination.

19. Excellent!!
....I see there's plenty of work to be done in beautiful Minnesota next week....time for a road trip....

....the perfect storm....grandpa and his grand daughter running mate (who would be an extremely short inexperienced heartbeat from the presidency) will be headlining while thousands of highly Patriotic American Protesters and Gustav wait in the wings to congratulate johnny....

....and to think the corporate media kept hammering that we had potential problems going into our convention....I can't wait to see how all these corporate cum-suckers spin next week....
