Dalai Lama, battling exhaustion, cancels trips
Source: AP

DHARMSALA, India (AP) — The Tibetan spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama, was suffering from exhaustion and has canceled two planned international trips to undergo medical tests, his office said Wednesday.

The 73-year-old Nobel Peace Prize winner had been "experiencing some discomfort in the past couple of days," a statement from his office said, adding that his doctors had diagnosed him as suffering from "exhaustion."

The Dalai Lama spends several months a year traveling the globe to highlight the struggle of Tibetans for greater freedom from China and to teach Buddhism.

1. Any ideas on how they will find his successor?
With Tibet now a puppet state of China, and now that China has made it illegal to reincarnate without government permission (I kid you not), the traditional means of finding the (presumed) reincarnation of the Lama cannot be followed.

2. The Dalai Lama can reincarnate anywhere on the globe and his reincarnated self can be
identified even if the Panchen Lama is still being held by the Chinese government.

As for a successor in government and as head of the Tibetan Buddhist faith -- there are people ready to step into those roles.

Let's not bury the dear man before he is gone from us, please.

I have been expecting this for some time - when he was in Bloomington this past fall he spoke about feeling like his time was almost up and it was time to pass the torch to a new generation.

3. yes
HH (His Holiness) was asked about this.
His response was that if the Tibetan people need another Dali Lama, one will be chosen. It may be that the rebirth will take place in another country, or that those that find the next dali lama will need to find him on the down low.
