Kucinich Electrifies Convention Arena
Edited on Tue Aug-26-08 07:47 PM by Mark E. Smith
Source: Rocky Mountain News via Yahoo News

Rep. Dennis Kucinich, erstwhile presidential condidate and strident opponent of the Bush administration, gave the most spirited speech of the session Tuesday condemning the war, the economy and the Republicans.

Short in stature, the Ohio congressman leaped up onto his tip toes time and again, thrusting his arms out and up, getting the crowd to roar so loudly he had to yell into the microphone to be heard.

It will become known as the "Wake Up, America" speech.

Teamsters members and construction workers aren't known for friendliness to liberals. The file membership and the union leadership don't see eye to eye on political support all the time.

69. Labor is our ally when we talk to them.
The problem is "What's wrong with Kansas."

Democrats have been divesting from organized labor and more than occasionally they have made too many deals with the bosses. The Democratic party - economic populism = A party that cannot appeal to the majority and cannot get elected. The Democrats are so afraid of the charge of "class warfare" that they run screaming from anything too pro-labor or anything resembling a fairer distribution of benefits.

Nafta was signed and universal healthcare squashed under a democratic president, so we can't blame them for their frustrations. And as a union member I share those frustrations.

74. Bingo!
The strategy you describe is exactly how we have managed to steadily lose for for the last 30 years. I'm absolutely convinced that this is due to infiltration of our party by all those "former" republiks that have alienated and directed the party away from it's base.

The constant pursuit of the mythical "center" has only yielded loss and bitterness, while the others have maneuvered to make this historical looting possible.

72. that statement
"Kucinich received more media attention than his failed candidacy merited."

In other words, a candidacy merits more or less attention depending upon whether it is a "failed candidacy" or not?

So, the mass media decides - a priori - whether or not a candidacy merits coverage, and if they decide that it doesn't, it is declared a "failed candidacy" and is not given coverage and so then therefore it fails.

I think you are right.

48. Wow! That was a "barn-burner," as they used to say! Great speech!
Thanks to those above who posted the vid!

(I only wish he had added--after "the insurance companies have taken over health care, and the pharmaceuticals have taken over drug pricing," that three rightwing, Bushite electronic voting corporations have taken over and privatized our vote counting system! But you can't have everything, I guess. Even Kucinich is at the mercy of the 'TRADE SECRET' vote counters.)

(I really, really, really, REALLY, REALLY! don't understand our Democratic Party leaders' mind-boggling silence on 'TRADE SECRET' vote counting by Bushite corporations. I've thought of a thousands reasons, including blackmail and death threats. It was the Anthrax Congress that did it, after all. I still don't understand it.)
