Clinton urges her supporters to back Obama

DENVER, Colorado (AFP) — Democrat Hillary Clinton on Monday called on her supporters to rally behind Barack Obama, launching a concerted effort to end the discord over her own failed bid for the White House.

"I am asking you -- to those of you who supported me I will be forever grateful -- to work as hard for Barack Obama as you worked for me during the primary," Clinton told a meeting of the Hispanic caucus here.

She was speaking just hours before the Democratic Party was to launch its four-day jamboree aimed at thrusting Obama forward into the final crucial weeks of the 2008 presidential elections.

"We must have a Democratic president," Clinton stressed to Hispanic supporters, many of whom have yet to fully embrace Obama as the party's choice for the White House.

Clinton: 'I'm Hillary Clinton and I do not approve that message'

Play video

The former Democratic presidential contender said "we are gathered here in Denver for a very clear and simple purpose. That is to come out of this convention energized and excited and ready to elect Senator Obama the next president of the United States."

"I ask each and everyone of you to work as hard for Barack and Joe Biden as you worked for me," said Clinton. "The Democratic party is a family and this is like a big family reunion."

"We are united, we are together and we are determined," said Clinton. "I don't want to live through another Republican administration. How many times can you yell at your TV screen?"

~snip~

"I just want to make it absolutely clear, we cannot afford four more years of George W. Bush's failed policies in America and that is what we would get with John McCain," said Clinton.

"The McCain campaign is running ads trying to divide us, and let me state what I think about their tactics and these ads: I'm Hillary Clinton and I do not approve that message," said Clinton.

4. Classic good cop, bad cop routine. She keeps saying this stuff, and at the same time...
...sends her surrogates out (Ann Lewis today) to keep talking about the Clintons deserving more respect.

Her "unity" message won't work until she calls off her surrogates.

13. Well, then, she needs to get on board with what Hillary says
and QUIT stirring up trouble to get her own name in the news, or whatever the hell her disgusting motive is.

28. Maybe you want to look for another way to phrase this.
Maybe you want to recheck your own biases in the way you perceive it.

Maybe you don't, at this time, want to keep pushing this.

Ask yourself, how does it help Obama to keep badmouthing Hillary? Obama supporters already hate her valiant guts. The others...will they be convinced to your side by hearing you rant on?

THINK BEFORE YOU SPEAK. Do you want to air your grievances or do you want to win?

MAYBE the Hillary people are trying to tell you that if YOU show some respect, which will be difficult for you, I do realize, you will convince her voters they will be safe with you and your candidate.

WHAT IS YOUR GOAL?

24. Was that a threat? Guess who needs unity? The answer: not Clinton
Can't believe the ratdogs are still gnawing at her ankles.

I will say it again for the slow to learn: STOP INSULTING. START SUCKING UP.

What amazingly poor winners you have proved to be. It isn't Clinton's behavior that is sending her voters to McCain. It is contact with charmers like you.

5. Only she has the power to unite what she herself divided, and she's
off to a really good start.

Thank you, Hillary.

25. "She herself divided"? An insult in the grudging compliment?
One would think she didn't have the right to run for president.

One would think she didn't have the right to get so many votes.

Thanks for NOTHING.

My suggestion: Don't say anymore nice things about Hillary. Obama can't take all your help.

Are you being deliberately divisive?

7. joint statement from Clinton and Obama on the divisive lies
Joint Statement from Maggie Williams, Senior Advisor to Senator Clinton and David Axelrod, Senior Strategist to Senator Obama

The following is a joint statement from Maggie Williams, Senior Advisor to Senator Clinton and David Axelrod, Senior Strategist to Senator Obama in response to the false story that appeared last night online on politico.com.

"We understand that some in the news media are more interested in reporting the rumor of controversy than the fact of unity. The fact is that our teams are working closely to ensure a successful convention and will continue to do so. Senator and President Clinton fully support the Obama/Biden ticket and look forward to addressing the convention and the nation on the urgency of victory this Fall. Anyone saying anything else doesn't know what they're talking about. Period."

29. Ex ACTLY
We understand that some in the news media are more interested in reporting the rumor of controversy than the fact of unity.

That is absolutely true and this sentence from the OP's article proves it:

"We must have a Democratic president," Clinton stressed to Hispanic supporters, many of whom have yet to fully embrace Obama as the party's choice for the White House.

According to Pew, more than 75% of Hispanic voters who supported Hillary are now voting for Obama. Considering that Obama already had a decent amount of Hispanic support, this is pretty much as good as it gets. This article seems absolutely determined to manufacture tension and drama where none exists.

Now, how do we get the media to stop calling the obstructionists "Hillary supporters," when clearly Hillary now supports Obama? These people trying to get McCain get elected could spell the end of Hillary's career, if they continue to be linked to her.

18. Kind of late, huh?
She would have been more convincing if she had released her delegates earlier and set up some rallies for her supporters, making strong public appeals to her devotees. Now the right wing is using this as a tool to divide the party. They should do some background checks on her 'devotees' and see if they are members of either the Republican party, or radical right groups.

20. If any Hillary supporter
If any Hillary supporter supports John MCCain they must not really care about the future of the country

With the Supreme Court, Our Civil Rights, Keeping Jobs from going to China, India, and Mexico
Health Care that with McCain will disappear for 90 % of Americans. among other issues is why we MUST NOT have a Republican in the White House the next 8 years. Any of the original Democratic Candidates that were running is a better choice than any of the Republicans that were running.

We need Democrats elected on every level of Gov't right now, The Future of the World is at stake

23. Any "so-called" Hillary supporter who votes for McCain
is not a Democrat and cares not one iota about what Clinton is all about. Clinton and Obama are near duplicates of each other when it comes to policy issues.

26. Try. Really hard. Not to repeat this.
Don't tell unhappy Democrats they aren't good Americans. Don't accuse them of what amounts to treason.

DO bring up the Supreme Court. Do bring up healthcare. Deregulation.

DON'T tell people they are lousy Americans who don't love their country.

Unless you WANT them to vote against you.
