Lennon's killer denied parole again
Source: CNN

(CNN) -- John Lennon's killer, Mark David Chapman, was denied parole for the fifth time Tuesday.

The New York State Division of Parole issued a release saying Chapman's request was denied "due to concern for the public safety and welfare."

Chapman, 53, is serving a sentence of 20 years to life in prison for shooting to death the former Beatle outside his New York City apartment on December 8, 1980.

The killer has served 24 years of his sentence at the maximum-security Attica Correctional Facility and was previously turned down by the New York State division of parole in 2000, 2002, 2004 and 2006.

1. Face facts, Mark

Your life ain't worth a plug nickel if you're ever released.

(on edit)

Not a threat, please--just facing an unpleasant reality. Much as I know John wouldn't want Chapman murdered, someone will think he would.

5. He'd be someone's trophy...
...and keeping him behind bars for the rest of his life is the only reasonable thing to do. I saw those photos of Yoko at the scene. No one should EVER have to suffer that much and carry on. She DID.

2. Rot, you worthless shithead.
You had your 15 minutes.

Maybe John Lennon wouldn't agree, but I almost forgot.

He's dead, isn't he?

4. so say, son, what is it that you've done?
did you quiet the voice?

did you mute the music?

have you yet realized you did not leave us with a void?

john lennon has outlived you and your sad life.

john lennon lives...

And may the smell of his own urine and feces overwhelm the taste of his hospital food for the entirety of his old age.

8. He should never be free
I would hope if that were to happen someone would take care of him when he got out. But look OJ is still alive. I know Nichole wasn't John Lennon but OJ's still a murderer.

9. Gee where are all the voices that would've freed Susan,
the Manson killer? You guys were all for it but don't want to free Chapman. Why not?

10. I think you are comparing apples & oranges
I remember those threads. I didn't see a whole lot of sympathy for Susan, the majority were in favor of having her die in prison. Those that did favor her release did so from the standpoint of her terminal illness.

Chapman (so far as we know) is not terminally ill.

13. Her illness meaning she wasn't a threat to society anymore, as I recall those threads.
Is Chapman still a threat to society?

In fact I think he's had furloughs.

I have no idea.

I'm comfortable with the parole board's decision, as I'm sure they are working with far more info than I have.

17. I don't see it that way at all. I think it's a double standard
because Lennon was who Chapman killed. Even if he were terminally ill I bet you wouldn't find a ton of support to let him lose.

25. It appears that we are "seeing" (or remembering) differently
Because I certainly don't remember there being a "ton of support" to let Susan out. The majority were against it.

I would argue that perhaps my memory of those threads is less biased than yours, as I really didn't care either way. I only read them because I read "Helter Skelter" as a kid and I'm still interested in the case & what happens to the guilty parties.

It appears that you feel strongly about the case, and are still outraged that some would want Susan released to die, rather than dying in prison. So maybe those (relatively few) supporters stand out in your memory more.

I'm not trying to criticize you for that. I've been in the same situation too many times to count. A few strident voices that oppose your own position can really get under your skin if you let them.

23. That's one of the reasons why I keep asking "Why?"
It made absolutely no sense. My thoughts are that he saw John as some sort of deity, and he believed John was "selling out" being the househusband for Sean while Yoko was making some excellent business investments.
