ReutersMANILA (Reuters) - Muslim rebels agreed to leave Catholic farming villages in the southern Philippines after the government gave them 24 hours to pull out or face a combined military and police offensive.
The Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) said on Friday it had agreed to pull out from villages in North Cotabato after both sides met late on Thursday.
"That was the solution they reached," MILF spokesman Eid Kabalu said on local radio.
The government said on Thursday it would take action against what it said was an attack by about 800 MILF rebels on nine villages in North Cotabato province last month.
