Oil for Iraq Liberation Act Announcement

Rep. Dennis Kucinich

Washington, Jul 30 -

Congressman Dennis Kucinich (D-OH) will hold a press conference on the Oil for Iraq Liberation Act tomorrow morning on the Cannon Terrace.

The Oil for Iraq Liberation bill will prevent U.S. based oil companies from development of and investment in petroleum resources of Iraq.

“Recently we have seen evidence of a concerted effort to pressure the Iraqi government into privatizing Iraqi oil fields against the will of its citizens. We have also heard that certain high level architects of the Iraq war stand to gain financially. This bill will ensure that the Iraqi oil money stays out of the hands of U.S. oil companies who would otherwise benefit from the US attack on and occupation of Iraq.”

The conference will be:

Thursday, July 31, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. on the Cannon Terrace, intersection of
Independence and New Jersey Avenue

...then maybe he could get some work done.

2. Is Kucinich crazy?
The war and all the American lives were lost for the oil companies and now he wants to throw it away..even if it did work they would just set up offices in some obscure island to bypass it.

but you got to love the guy for trying....and I do agree he would be the one of the best for vice president because the right wing would be to scared to have him charge so they would not try to remove Obama after he wins. Kucinich would be Obama's best insurance policy.

8. Was that sarcasm?
"The war and all the American lives were lost for the oil companies and now he wants to throw it away"
The oil STILL BELONGS to the Iraquis. Are you saying that because we have destroyed their country and killed so many, NOW THEY CAN'T HAVE THEIR OIL?
If so you were "Born Free" so that others could be slaves.

13. Of course they can't have their oil.
Edited on Thu Jul-31-08 07:11 AM by sourmilk
They can't even be allowed to have their own economy anymore. It no longer belongs to them since are not allowed to have any means of exercising control over it. I'm not sure if, in the end-game, they will even be allowed to keep their country intact.

Do you actually believe that the USA invaded because of the nefarious activities and proclivities of some tinpot dictator, the importance of the freedom of the indigineous population, or the elimination of dangerous weapons?

I think USAsians are fooling themselves if they think that the Banana Wars ended in the 1930s.

Kucinich: Privatization of Iraqi Oil—Spoils of War to Bush Ally?

AlterNet. Posted September 19, 2007.

The Ohio Rep calls foul.

Editor's note: The following is a press release from the office of Ohio Rep. Dennis Kucinich.

WASHINGTON, D.C. (September 18, 2007) -- Congressman Dennis Kucinich (D-OH) is seeking answers in the Administration's involvement in an Iraqi oil deal that appears to benefit a large Republican donor and ally of President Bush and Vice President Cheney.

no press. The American people need to understand exactly what has transpired with these monsters in the WH...the total audacity of their greed and the total cruelty of their mind set. Go, Dennis! This needs to be spread far and wide by us.

Edited on Thu Jul-31-08 08:35 AM by DLnyc
I don't always agree with Dennis, but when he's on he's REALLY on. How the hell are we going to get a political settlement in Iraq while we are pushing the Iraqi government to hand over hundreds of billions of barrels of oil at gunpoint to a couple of well-connected US oil companies?

Sure would be great if more Americans knew about this side of the equation.

Yay Dennis!

(edit: oops, five became ten somehow)

26. ahhh . . . finally, a real test of where the U.S. Congress actually stands . . .
here, finally, a bill to ensure that the U.S. does right by Iraq and not turn the nation's resources over to private American corporations for their own exploitation and profit . . . How will the Congress respond? . . .

unfortunately, imo, there is no chance in hell that this bill will ever see the light of day . . . with few exceptions, the House and Senate are both pawns to the corporate masters, in this case the oil companies (which, btw, continue to report record profits every quarter) . . . the notion that Congress would do anything to interfere with the ongoing corporate rape of Iraq is unthinkable to most of these dinosaurs, and this bill will end up in the nearest circular file at the earliest possible time . . .

nice try, Dennis . . . unfortunately, very few of your colleagues have your integrity, your morality, or your ethics . . .

Sad that only a single individual is concerned enough to act against the wrongs being initiated by Cheney and associates against Iraq and its people.

Sadder is the fact that useless, unqualified, Pelosi will prevent it coming to the floor. Come on, all you other congress persons, grow some b---s and do something right for a change. Back Kucinich and re-direct madam Pelosi!
