DOD: Soldier Dies of Wounds ( not a dupe ) the 45th this month
DoD Identifies Army Casualty
The Department of Defense announced today the death of a soldier who was supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Pfc. Luis A. Moreno, 19, of Bronx, N.Y., died on Jan. 29, 2004, at the Lakenheath Medical Treatment Facility, United Kingdom. Moreno was shot on Jan. 23 while he was guarding a gas station in Baghdad, Iraq. He later died of his injuries. Moreno was assigned to Battery A, 4th Battalion, 1st Field Artillery, based at Fort Riley, Kan.

The incident is under investigation.

1. This is the very first report of this kind I have heard. How many others
have died a week or a month after an attack?
:grr:

4. A few more, actually
They have reported some wounded who have died after being evacuated from Iraq, so it's not like it has never happened. Maybe they are not reporting all of them, and it wouldn't really surprise me that much if they weren't. But it's kind of hard to hide a person dying, harder still to hide multiple deaths. I think they certainly don't report it very widely when soldiers die of wounds days later - not that there's much reporting of soldiers dying in the first place - but they're there if you look.

There was another just today who died of wounds received in the IED attack in Khaldiyah on the 27th. One on the 5th, who actually died in Brooke Army Medical Center, which is in Texas. And going back into last year there are more, if you comb through the Lunaville database. It doesn't sort by location, unfortunately, but you can pick out ones that aren't Arab sounding pretty easily.

Still waiting for Bush to tell us why all of these men and women have died...

Expects to be waiting a long time

And "Bring it on"' the resistance did.

Meanwhile in a Saturday night stupor, most of America reflected on Faux News which through their "Fair and Balanced", reporting featuring Kobe, Jackson, and Scott Peterson.

edit for syntax:

2. How bitterly ironic. Guarding a gas station. Defending the oil.
I wonder if it was a Halliburton operation? Was he guarding Dick Cheney's stock options?....

5. Thanks for the info
which if I can count--makes that a lot more than 522 soldiers who died in the Iraq war. Don't you just love how the gov't separates those who die in combat and those who die later?

BTW what is a dupe? I am new to du and see that word quite often.

11. No, the count is 45 + 2 still MIA for US forces
49 + 2 missing for coalition as a whole (lunaville shows that 4 other coalition troops died in connection with "Iraqi Freedom" this month.
