Four US soldiers charged with conspiracy to murder Iraqis

WASHINGTON (AFP) - Four US soldiers have been charged with conspiracy to commit murder in connection with the deaths of several detainees in Iraq in early 2007, the US Army said Wednesday.

The soldiers were charged in Grafenwoehr, Germany where they are currently serving in the 172nd Infantry Brigade, the army said in a statement.

"The soldiers were charged with conspiracy to commit premeditated murder," the statement said.

"The charges relate to an incident that occurred during April/May 2007 in Baghdad, Iraq, while the soldiers were serving in the 1st Battalion, 18th Infantry (Regiment)," it said.

The statement provided no details on the incident, and army public affairs officers refused to elaborate on what the soldiers were accused of doing.

But a spokesman for the US Army in Europe referred reporters to a separate army statement in January 2008 that said the army was investigating the deaths of several detainees captured during combat operations in 2007 by members of the 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division.

No insane leader can impose his will over others, unless he has militant followers who are willing to obey his orders.

Bush/Cheney, et. al., wouldn't be able to do what they're doing, if there weren't so many people who are so eager to do the dirty work.

When there was a draft, people were saying, "Hell no, we won't go!" Today, there's no draft, but these people are basically saying, "I support torture and your illegal war--quick, sign me up!"

It's not like the old days, when you were forced to be in wars. That's what makes me sick...that there are so many people so willing to do wrong, despite so much evidence proving that this war is wrong. :(

3. This is why we need comprehensive war crimes trials

Obviously the likes of Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Gonzalez, Rice, etc should be at the top of the war crimes list. But if we want to heal completely, we need to hold every single serviceman who has committed a war crime responsible. Notice I am not saying that ALL of our servicemen are war criminals. However, the ones that we can prove have committed war crimes should definitely be held accountable!
