Wisconsin vote could make or break Dean - AP
http://www2.ocregister.com/ocrweb/ocr/article.do?id=78741§ion=NEWS&subsection=FOCUS_POLITICS&year=2004&month=1&day=31

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Howard Dean's goal is to keep his battered presidential bid alive until the Wisconsin primary Feb. 17, where he plans to stand as John Kerry's chief rival for the nomination, his new campaign chief said Friday.

"Let the conventional wisdom and the media declare this race over," Roy Neel, chief executive officer of the Dean campaign, wrote in a memo. "We're going to let the people decide."

(snip)

Dean raised more than $40 million last year, the most of any Democrat in the race, but he spent most of it on his losses in Iowa and New Hampshire. Neel said the campaign has raised about $2.6 million since the Iowa loss.

(snip)

Neel said Dean will continue to try to distinguish himself as the outsider in the race and Kerry as a Washington insider with few accomplishments during a 20-year Senate career. On Friday, Dean criticized Kerry for having sponsored only nine bills that were signed into law.

1. The rethugs have done everything possible
using the media whores to discredit Dean...and their plan has been working as Dean's credibility has eroded under "BIG NEWS!" reporting on and about him.

Yet, has the American public been made very aware of Kerry and the daily reminders by him of his "veteran" appeal?

I would say, all in all, Kerry poses less of a threat to the GOP than does Dean.

Vietnam stance irks veterans
By TERRY GARLOCK

Terry L. Garlock of Peachtree City was a Cobra helicopter pilot in Vietnam.

Now that U.S. Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.) is claiming the veteran vote based on his war record, both sides of that story should be told.

<snip>
A young Kerry, however, broke faith with his brothers when he returned to the United States. With the financial aid of Jane Fonda, he led highly visible protests against the war. He wrote a book that many considered to be pro-Hanoi, titled "The New Soldier."

The cover photo of his book depicted veterans in a mismatch of military uniforms mocking the legendary image of Marines raising the American flag atop Mount Suribachi in the 1945 battle for Iwo Jima, holding the American flag upside down.

Kerry publicly supported Hanoi's position to use our POWs as a bargaining chip in negotiations for a peace agreement. Kerry threw what appeared to be his medals over a fence in front of the Capitol building in protest, on camera of course, but was caught in his lie years later when his medals turned up displayed on his office wall.

10. Not just the Rethugs -- Dems, too
The debates were used to weaken Dean and the press to finish him off. This was his reward for challenging the status quo. With Terry McAuliffe's pro-Kerry remarks this weekend, it's fairly clear that the establishment has neutralized Dean in favor of the safe, dull bet.

2. This sounds familiar...
Oh yeah, the Iowa vote was suppose to "make or break" Dean. So was the NH vote.

It amazes me that the guy in the #2 position in a field of 7 will have the entire race decided on Wisconsin when apparently it isn't the case for Clark, Edwards, Lieberman, Sharpton, or Kucinich. Why is that?

3. It's just more anti-Dean media whore spin, GloriaSmith
Brought to the American sheeples courtesy of the American media whores who spin for the BFEE.

My question is why there hasn't been more denigrating news items about the other candidates, especially Kerry? The majority of media aspersion has been reagrding Dean, and that really pisses me off.

4. In my opinon,
If Dean is going to win the nomination, he needs to actually win a state. :)

6. Here in Wisconsin Lt. Gov. Lawton is on a Clark Committee
and Clark tv spots are regular as sunrise in N.E. Wisconsin, Dean support is strong and my hunch is that Dennis Kucinich will do well here, surprising many.

7. Southeast Wisconsin checking in here; agreeing with your assessment
Clark commercials are on regularly. DK has an amazing volunteer organization here. Dean's ground staff and grassroots is probably the strongest of the three.

I've seen a little Kerry, a little Edwards, a little Lieberman. But nothing like the other three.

8. here on the left coast
Dean has the strongest campaign. At a Dem Club meeting last week, the lone Kerry supporter didn't even know where the Kerry caucus was being held! Dean and Clark R organized here in CA; Kucinich has a robust group of supporters - Kerry & Edwards - minimal.

15. I want a real primary season!!
I don't want to feel that the nominee has been forced down our throats by the media and the coporate Democrats. Let us CHOOSE our nominee, and leave us the fuck alone! They are getting on my last nerve.
