31. Watch Porno Phil remain as an "unofficial advisor"
Porno Phil isn't going away. You think the genius who financed such bombs as Truck Stop Women and White House Madness is going away? Hell no! He'll be an unofficial advisor just like his butt buddy Rove!

admits a recession when most of Americans are struggling.

replace him. There are many in Washington that share his views on economics. Gramm represents the broad consensus; the mainstream on economic issues if you will. Who knows? Maybe the person who replaced him will have even had a D before his or her name when they served the country as a politician.

15. What a load of bullshit
but of course they won't tell Joe Sixpack that Gramm got caught setting up money laundering accounts for fat cat tax cheats at UBS, will they?

No, Joe will just have to think that a good man was let go because of a smear job by the mean old liberal media.

Funny how the major media don't seem to mind cutting their own throats by not reporting the whole story.

19. Phil Gramm steps down after 'whiners' comment
WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Former Republican Sen. Phil Gramm said Friday he is stepping down as co-chairman of Sen. John McCain's presidential campaign amid criticism for saying, "We have sort of become a nation of whiners.

Democrats blasted Gramm for the comments, made in a Washington Times interview published July 10.

McCain forcefully repudiated the remarks at the time.

...

Gramm also said the media was responsible for fostering unnecessary anxiety over the state of the economy. "Misery sells newspapers," he said. "Thank God the economy is not as bad as you read in the newspaper every day."

...

Gramm also said he was not trying to insult Americans.

"The whiners are the leaders. Hell, the American people are victims, but it didn't quite come out that way in the story," Gramm said.

20. Phil Gramm steps down as McCain’s co-chair
Source: The Hill

Former Texas Republican Sen. Phil Gramm late Friday stepped down as co-chair of Sen. John McCain’s (R-Ariz.) presidential campaign.

The former senator had been criticized for a remark in which he said that the economic slowdown was a “mental recession,” and that the U.S. was a nation of “whiners.” The campaign of Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Barack Obama (Ill.) had seized on the remark and used it for a barrage of attacks on Gramm and McCain.

“It is clear to me that Democrats want to attack me rather than debate Sen. McCain on important economic issues facing the country,” Gramm said.

34. Do you suppose the Gramm fortune might be stashed away
in a foreign country to avoid taxes? Maybe his name is on the list turned over by the bank clerk. That would be the icing on the cake.
