Voters to decide: Bush memorial sewage plant?
Edited on Thu Jul-17-08 07:09 PM by Newsjock
Source: San Francisco Chronicle

San Francisco voters will be asked to decide whether to name a city sewage plant in honor of President Bush, after a satiric measure qualified for the November ballot today.

Backers of the measure, who for several months circulated a petition to place the measure on the ballot, turned in more than 12,000 signatures on July 7, said organizer Brian McConnell. The Department of Elections today informed those supporters, the self-proclaimed Presidential Memorial Commission, that they had enough valid signatures - a minimum of 7,168 registered San Francisco voters - to qualify for the November ballot, he said.

... The measure, if passed by a majority of voters, would rename the Oceanside Water Pollution Control Plant the George W. Bush Sewage Plant. McConnell said the intent is to remember the Bush administration and what the group sees as the president's mistakes, including the war in Iraq.

Some people aren't laughing, including the San Francisco Republican Party, which sees the measure as an embarrassment, even to this famously-liberal city. Chairman Howard Epstein has vowed to fight the measure with all means available to him.

doubt this would go over very well there

there used to be a Navy base there and there's still a Coast Guard base

15. A sewage plant is too good for him
A sewage plant actually cleans up waste. Everything this man has had any contact with has turned to shit.

More appropriate would be to name the nation's largest dairy lagoon after him. I can think of a few good candidates in southern Idaho, and the state loves him.

17. I have mixed feelings about it. On the one hand,
it is fitting that, if anything were to be named after President Bush, it would have something to do with sewage.

On the other hand, a sewage treatment plant—"Water Pollution Control Plant", in this case—actually performs a function that is pretty antithetical to anything George Bush has ever done...i.e., a sewage treatment plant treats sewage—a basically "cleaning" function. However, a hallmark of Bush's administration has been the complete failure to ever clean up after any of the disasters it has visited upon everything it has ever touched. If anything, the George W. Bush Sewage Not Treatment Plant might actually be more appropriate.

But it might actually be worth overlooking semantic nitpicking just to make veins in Republicans' heads pop.

Edited on Thu Jul-17-08 08:05 PM by Baby Snooks
The vote on whether to allow SMU to house the Bush Library on campus is next week as I recall. Maybe the Methodist Council will vote no to the library but allow SMU to name a toilet for him.

The Bush Memorial Toilet.

20. Tough call.
A sewage plant benefits the community for obvious sanitation and environmental reasons.

Bush on the other hand, benefits a precious few.

I could see this going either way.

41. This is wrong. I have too much respect for the selfless, nameless engineers
that work very hard to make sure we have a high quality of life. I get why they are doing it, but it is misguided. They should name a site that needs Superfunds for Bush or some other toxic festering boil on the ass of society.
Having a sewage treatment plant named after you is a high honor. Have you ever heard the phrase, "Get your shit together." or "They don't have their shit together."
Having your shit together is the fundamental measure of the success or failure of a society. If you don't have your shit together in one place where you can treat it, then you are probably dumping it from buckets or otherwise flinging it into the street and causing untold harm and disease. Bush has caused untold harm, death and disease.
This is fundamentally wrong.

43. This idea is like a tatoo you get of the person you're dating. It seems like a great idea at the
time, but 10 year from now, where you're no longer together, not so much. That being said, if it's what the voters want, then fine. But I think there's more important things to be spending these tax dollars on.

Absolutely nothing should be dedicated to this dictator shithead. A manure farm maybe, but not a municipal water treatment plant which serves an important function.

The only mention of this piece of shit should be in the history books, where it should depict him as the disgusting piece of shits he and his family are.

And who the fuck wants to be reminded of this asshole if/when he's gone?
