Topeka Company's Closing To Leave 790 Out Of Work
Topeka — TeleTech Holdings, Inc. told its 790 employees that the company was closing April 2 after losing a contract that expires then.

We value the contributions of the employees," said Carol Hahn, spokeswoman for the company based in Englewood, Colo. "We regret doing this. It's an unfortunate situation."

Hahn said TeleTech, which assists customers with questions about billing, Internet access and phone service, was continuing to look for additional work for the Topeka center.

One of TeleTech's major clients in Topeka is Verizon Communications. But it would not confirm if Verizon or another client had ended the contract. Employees at TeleTech's Topeka office referred calls to the company's headquarters, which did not immediately return a phone call by The Associated Press."

1. wonder if the dustbowl
is about to strike Kansas?

Boeing losses and now 790 in Topeka?

This is just more reinforcement for Greenspin's "job market improving" statement.

6. Real trouble rumbling in Kansas/Missouri, for sure

Hadn't heard this info. until seeing your post. Thank you.

Fits in very appropriately with the news Boeing, which has dominated Wichita for decades, is moving out. That whole town has revolved around Boeing, and to a lesser degree, Cessna.

7. Boeing's not a done deal - but Stonecipher didn't smooth many feathers
He held court in Wichita yesterday, in a cagey, vaguely reassuring way. "No plans" to sell sounds remarkably like a famous politician saying that he or she has "no plans" to run for a particular ofice.

And sale of the Wichita plant, or further job cuts, would fit neatly with the general trend towards outsourcing, downsizing and reducing Boeing to an assembly company.
