McClellan Slams Rove
Source: Roll Call

Under questioning from Rep. Artur Davis (D-Ala.), former Bush administration spokesman Scott McClellan stated that ex-White House political mastermind Karl Rove would not, in his experience, be a trustworthy witness if he were not placed under oath while talking to lawmakers.

1. It makes ya wonder what the hell kind of droolers we got in Congress
that they need to be told that.

Democratic droolers, I mean. The Republicans are too busy covering Bush's tracks to drool.

2. Two things we all know conservative republicans abhor
- THE FAIRNESS DOCTRINE
- SWEARING TO TELL THE TRUTH

I must disagree with Scotty though. Scum like rove would not be trustworthy whether under oath or not.

6. It would be better were there no twitching
and that 2x4 driven through the point his little raisin of a heart is.

But that's far too much to ask for. Besides, now that Scott's singing, I don't want him jailed for insecticide.

12. I think McClellen is simply saying to put Rove under oath,
then when he lie you can nail him for perjury. There's no denying it once it is out there (that Rove should be under oath).

On one hand, this is a "well, DUH!." On the other hand, McClellan has definitely shown some chutzpah to basically and very publicly call KKKarl a liar.

19. Let's be honest here: McClellan is doing nothing that will make his life easier in the future.
He has really hung himself out to dry. Nobody on the left will really trust him and many cannot forgive him, but to the right he is a low-life traitor. Even as far as making money writing the book he would have done much better by keeping his mouth shut.

22. I can forgive him
Scotty got in way over his head, as he more-or-less has said. He got out and took a while to readjust himself back to "normal person" perceptions but now he's doing what any decent person does when they find they've been involved in something so wrong: He's trying to make amends, first with the book, now with his testimony (and notice, it was voluntary as well). He's trying to redeem himself. And so long as he keeps trying, I can forgive him.

Also, Arianna Huffington. We tend to forget now but there was a time when Arianna was the darling of the far-right. Both of them came to the light side, both tried to make amends for their former wrongs, Scott McClellan is trying to do the same.

doing so in a very big way, actually leading the charge against the criminals in this administration and their collaborators in the media.

39. I admire your response so much. I, too, have much respect for Scott.
It's taken a great deal of courage to come forth and I honestly don't think it was motivated by money. I bought his book as a way to demonstrate my appreciation for what he's done. He is still a little too myopic about Bush IMO but has come a long way to redeem himself. I used to despise him.

Scotty's not all the way there yet but he's getting there. I doubt it was money that motivated him, 75k is decent money but you can't live on it for long. No, I think it was guilt.

40. I agree with you, too.
He didn't have to testify. But he did. Under oath, too. Rove said that he would come and talk-no cameras, no oath, no note-taking. Shit, the others got subpoenaed and blew it off. Nobody's perfect, and I think he is trying to redeem himself.

23. To be honest, this is the most puzzling thing...
He now has no friends on the right. Most of the left will still despise him even if he told where every single body is buried. He's not making a lot of money from all this; while his book advance is a nice chunk of change to me, it's not enough to live on more than a year or two. He'd do ok for the life if he just kept his mouth shut. He wouldn't even have to cheerlead for the Republicans.

So what is his motivation? It can't be that he's had a change of heart; I haven't seen an interview yet where he seemed contrite, or apologized for helping to sell the war to the country.

I, for one, will never forgive him trying to intimidate a reporter by warning him that he'd "Better be careful what questions he asks...." (I can't find the exact quote at the moment, though)

for example, WAR CRIMES, and wants to distance himself as far as possible. He could be hedging his bets. Irregardless of the reason, what a slap upside the head to KKKarl. In so many words, McClellan has said kkkarl is a liar and not credible. Gotta love it!

30. A few weeks back I heard a guy who was a Republican operative who did dirty tricks
in a senate race in New Hampshire in 2006 (not exactly sure about that last bit). He got caught and came totally clean about everything. For him it became a matter of conscience when he thought about what he had done and how he would explain it to his young son someday. So he named names and still got into trouble himself. He said he didn't want to ever have anything to do with the Republican Party ever again.

So contrary to the opinion of many here, and to be honest also--based on experience, Republicans are also human beings and some of them actually have a soul (just one though, one collective soul).

It had to be a couple of million. If not, he has the world's most incompetent agent.

It's not enough money to make Cheney cross the street, but it's enough for him to live on, I would guess.

46. Joe Wilson says Scott apologized to him. That takes courage, IMO.
Scott may be asking for forgiveness privately rather than publicly. In today's climate, contrition is deemed cowardly on both the right and the left.
