Sweden approves wiretapping law
Source: BBC

Sweden's parliament has approved controversial new laws allowing authorities to spy on cross-border e-mail and telephone traffic.

The country's intelligence bureau will be able to scan international calls, faxes and e-mails.

The measure was passed by a narrow majority after a heated debate in the Stockholm parliament.

Critics say it threatens civil liberties and represents Europe's most far-reaching eavesdropping plan.

2. Michael Moore glorified Sweden in his film Sicko, too.
What caused Parliament to pass such a reactionary bill? Did they take in "too many" Iraqi refugees and now they're afraid they've brought home terrorism?

3. Perhaps they are trying to show us how it should have been done...
We need to wait and see how this pans out... if it's truly kept solely to international calls, fax, and email, it would be completely different than the broad brush data-mining used in the US.
