Clear Channel sells out O'Hare in traffic reports
...

In a move that has enraged and appalled staffers at all seven Clear Channel stations in Chicago, the company is ordering its on-air talent to stop reporting Kennedy Expy. travel times to O'Hare -- the landmark end point familiar to generations of motorists

Thanks to a yearlong marketing agreement with Allstate Arena -- the first under Clear Channel's "traffic destination rights program" -- travel times are to be reported "from Downtown to the Allstate Arena" rather than to O'Hare, starting next week. The concert venue and sports facility, formerly known as the Rosemont Horizon, is located near O'Hare in northwest suburban Rosemont

1. CC needs to be busted the hell up
yesterday! It's only a matter of time (like maybe, a week??) before the CC stations are nothing but commercials for other CC investments.

the top rated shows in chicago give traffic reports that will include o`hare. they must figure none of their listeners fly or they are to dumb to fly and only go up the kenndey to go to overpriced shows at the "allstate". what a joke.

5. That isn't all...
From yesterday's Sun-Times...

Ron Britain, the Chicago radio legend who came out of retirement to help launch WRLL-AM (1690), has called it quits after four months as afternoon personality on the "Real Oldies" station.

In a scathing letter of resignation Monday to Tommy Edwards, program director of the Clear Channel Radio outlet, Britain cited conditions that stifled his creativity as an artist. He specifically objected to one of his bits being edited last week and to pressure from Edwards to keep all of his on-air material to under one minute in length.

"Their ill-chosen words were only a reminder to me that they had control over my life for that moment in time. Fortunately for them, I responsibly and conscientiously wanted to provide well for my family thus I permitted myself to be reinvented by them even though I felt a bit of flesh being ripped away with each change.

"It never surprised me when their directions about changing to a new approach on my show never worked. I continued to pay the price when I stayed and tried their way -- and by the time I left, my flesh felt raw and my brain was badly bruised. It was a pretty sickening feeling.

"I promised myself that when I could take control of my life, I would. I promised myself that I would no longer remain silent when inept management tried with their lack of knowledge to reinvent me one more time," he wrote.

6. Today's Radio Management is Truly Amazing
They want jocks to be hamburger flippers. Heaven forbid the guy/gal who is the wealth-maker has a career, too.
