City (of Chicago) IDs Salomonella cluster

Nine cases of salmonella at two Adobo Grill restaurants in Chicago could help federal regulators solve a widespread outbreak of the illness that has sickened at least 383 people in 30 states.

The Chicago Department of Public Health on Wednesday identified the Adobo Grill outlets in Wicker Park and Old Town as the source of a cluster of nine salmonella cases that were disclosed Friday.

. . .

The Chicago cluster of salmonella cases has been the only one to surface. It looks like the FDA and the city "are talking about the same thing," said Tim Hadac, a spokesman for the Chicago Department of Public Health.

The Health Department forwarded the findings of its salmonella investigation to the FDA, Hadac said.

Of the 17 tomato-related salmonella cases detected in Chicago, six occurred at Adobo Grill's Wicker Park location and three at its Old Town restaurant. Adobo Grill, which also has outlets in Lombard and Indianapolis, features Mexican food, and many of its dishes include fresh tomatoes.

Local governments doing the job of the Feds once again. And if Chicago Health Department didn't tell the FDA, the FDA would probably still be sitting at their desks twiddling their thumbs saying "We know nothing. We so confused."

1. I can't understand why it's taking so long to sort this whole tomatoe fiasco out?
Why is it taking so long to pinpoint the point of contamination and then where those tomatoes where shipped?

2. The FDA is just not investigating
After all this time all they say is Florida and Mexico ship us a lot of tomatoes. Because so many tomatoes come from Florida and Mexico, the bad tomatoes probably comes from Florida and Mexico.

That is the entire extent of their investigation.
