Pentagon prepares for White House wartime change
Source: Reuters

WASHINGTON, June 10 (Reuters) - Facing the first White House transition in wartime since 1969, Defense Secretary Robert Gates ordered a team to identify issues and potential security crises the next president and Pentagon chief must be prepared to deal with on their first day in office.

Gates also said on Tuesday he asked civilian leaders inside the Defense Department, mostly Republican political appointees, to stay in their jobs, if asked by the next president, until their successors are confirmed by the U.S. Senate.

That could ensure some continuity in management of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan as well as other issues, he said.

He backed a proposal aimed at speeding up the process by asking presidential candidates for a list of national security experts and officials they might want to appoint to government positions after the inauguration in January 2009. People on that list could have background checks conducted in advance and prepare answers to questions the Senate poses when it considers nominations for public office.

2. This is not wartime.
This is failed imperial overreach-time. There has been no mobilization of the public, or the economy, no draft, no nothing, it's all been all mercenaries and lies about you can have guns and butter.

4. We're not at "war". Bush and his profiteering murderous thiugs
invaded another country on a false pretext so they could steal money from the American people.

That isn't war - it's felony murder - times 4000+.
