Schwarzenegger Calif. Campaign Loans Ruled Illegal

Tue January 27, 2004 04:17 PM ET

SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - A California judge ruled on Monday that Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger broke state law by borrowing more than $4.5 million to finance his run for governor in last October's recall election.

In a preliminary decision that could force Schwarzenegger to repay the money personally, Superior Court Judge Loren McMaster ruled on Monday that the Republican governor had violated a law restricting candidates from accepting personal loans of more than $100,000 for their campaigns, said Lowell Finley, the lawyer who filed a lawsuit challenging the loan.

A movie star generally has a small army of lawyers so he doesn't get hoodwinked himself or do something TOO legally stupid.

I don't know the political fallout. May not matter if he doesn't intend to run again.

However as for money, he has *netted" an average of 50 million per year for over a decade. Probably would net 10 million a year on residuals alone. The bastard doesn't even have to work!

So if the time comes he actually has to pay the 4.5 mill in loans himself he will say, "No Problemo" Chump change for him. Just didn't want to pay it all if he could avoid it.

14. Freakin' HILARIOUS,...
,...not that I have anything personal against "Aunold",...but rather, I found the "power-politic-mongering" crap totally offensive!!! I hope the anti-democracy freaks' asses catch on fire without the avail of a taxpayer funded firehose!!! I really, REALLY want to witness power-mongers get precisely what they deserve. Oh, God,...please let me witness some of your divine justice!!! I won't plead for any big miracles like parting of seas or whatnot,...just, please,...a little divine justice would be soooooooo inspiring.
