Democratic Poll Predicts Big Wave in GOP Districts
Source: Wall Street Journal

June 4, 2008

Democratic pollsters released a survey showing the possibility of a Democratic wave in Republican congressional districts this fall.

The poll of 1,600 voters in 45 Republican congressional districts showed on average a 33% approval rating for President Bush, a 38% approval rating for the incumbent Republican and a strong desire for change.

In the 45 districts, the poll found that 55% of people said they wanted to vote for a Democrat for Congress, compared with 49% in January. Some 37% of respondents said they would vote for their Republican incumbents, who were named.

"What's stunning about this is just that the race has moved over the last three months," said Democratic pollster Stan Greenberg. "There's no reason to believe this won't continue to move."...

2. More on this from Raw Story (non-subscriber source)
After surveying voters in 45 Republican House districts, Democratic pollsters are predicting that the GOP could lose nearly as many seats this time around as they did two years ago, when Democrats picked up 31 seats to regain the Congressional majority for the first time in 12 years.

"This wave seems as strong as the wave we looked at in 2006," Democratic pollster Stan Greenberg said on a conference call Tuesday, releasing the results of his firm's latest poll.

Greenberg predicted Democratic pickups in about half of the 45 districts surveyed.

<snip>

The poll broke down the 45 competitive districts into six different categories: suburban, urban, suburban/rural, exurban, urban/rural and rural/small town. Democratic challengers were ahead in each type of district except those containing a mix of urban and rural residents and rural/small town.

It did my heart good to read it and I would never have known this was out there if you hadn't posted the original.

Sorry, Stan. Things always change and trends always reverse. We can't be complacent now. (Not that he's saying to be complacent, but the statement can be so interpreted.)

19. There is a risk of complacency
But for those of us who have volunteered in the past, not knowing if we're making a dime's worth of difference, it will be rather nice this summer and into the fall holding the feeling that our efforts are going to have a good pay-off come November 4. All the phone banking, door knocking, neighborhood canvassing and other scut work in a campaign that's gotta be done, and done best by volunteers, can be done with a light and cheerful heart.

Someone slams a door in your face? No biggie, because there were will be 10 doors with enthusiastic responses. And the poll numbers indicate that it will all be worth it.

6. I hope they get their asses STOMPED!
No close races... just good old fashioned butt whoopin's at the polls. After the way they acted the last eight years, I want to it rub in in their goddamn faces.

7. There are at least three an maybe five seats in Ohio up for grabs...
Mean Jean and Portmans old seat in southern Ohio.

Deborah Pryce in Central Ohio, suburban Columbus.

Ralph Regula's seat in the Akron Canton Area and Steve Latorette in the Northeast corner of the state.

Mean Jean and Regula's seats are pretty much going to go Blue.

Pryce's seems to be leaning our way.

LaTorette has a very hard working and credible opponent in William O'Neill

And the Portman seat is up for grabs.

15. Don't bet on Regula's seat
The Republican running is very moderate and has a much more well-known name (Kurt Shurring) than the Democrat running for office. Shurring wouldn't be the worst choice as a Republican as he is pretty socially to the left.

12. And the RW talking heads insanely spin this away by saying
the GOP has strayed too far from "conservative values". They don't get it that doing the same thing and expecting different results is insane. But of course they don't get it because they are insane.

14. This could easily evaporate ...
IF the Democrats do NOT get out there, and promote their philosophies and values so people can understand them ...

Hell .... I have been a Democrat all my life, but I cannot tell you what they stand for if I depended on contemporary party figures to 'explain it all' ....

It is time to educate the masses: ADVERTISE, and do it well ....
