KeyCorp outsourcing eliminates 50 Cleveland-area jobs
Source: The Cleveland Plain Dealer

June 03, 2008 16:27PM

A few months ago, KeyCorp said it was planning to outsource jobs to other countries, and the number of jobs lost could total 200 to 400.

The analysis of what Key is calling its "global sourcing" project is now done and has led to the elimination of 50 jobs in Greater Cleveland and about 20 more in other areas.

Employees of the Cleveland-based bank were notified this week of the cuts, which will occur over a few months.

The positions are technology support jobs, such as technology software maintenance and small-project development, said Key spokesman Bill Murschel. The positions don't involve direct contact with customers, he said.

Employees whose jobs are being eliminated have the "types of skills (that) are in high demand," Murschel said.

Snip~ "Key chose to outsource work to two firms, Cognizant Technology Solutions and Wipro Limited, both of which are huge in India."

Shocked, I tell you. :sarcasm:

1. I can tell you that wipro
is garbage. The people they bring here are morons and the idiot who puts this model in place always seems to get their golden parachute by the time everyone realizes the model does not work and that these idiots charge you for everything and screw half of that up.

By then they have the company by the balls and it takes more money to get rid of them.

4. The company I work for uses WiPro
It is painful to get in-house support.

I think these companies are stupid to put their family jewels like IT support services in the hands of a third party, especially an offshore one.

2. As if Cleveland hasn't been hit hard enough already
Employees whose jobs are being eliminated have the "types of skills (that) are in high demand," Murschel said.

Certainly not in high demand in the Cleveland area! No jobs are in high demand in Cleveland. If you have accounts with Key, you should have switched banks the day before yesterday. If you don't have a problem having your finances being shipped off to India... don't complain tomorrow.

5. My wife used to work for Key.
She still has a 401k with them, and a lot of it is in Key stock. I told her last week, get it the fuck out of there NOW!

It's being processed now.

And her job used to be in the division that handled 401k's for other companies. They outsourced her division 6 years ago.

6. Good to hear that she's getting her $$$$ out.
National City (here in Cleveland) made news in April...

National City may outsource 200 jobs to India

National City Corp. is preparing to outsource up to 200 jobs at its 2,000-employee operations center to India, employees say.
