Fears of racist violence rise as gang goes on rampage in Rome
Source: Guardian UK

Fears of rising intolerance towards migrants in Italy grew after a masked group armed with sticks went on the rampage in a
multi-ethnic Rome neighbourhood, smashing shop windows while hurling abuse.

In the 10-minute blitz on Saturday, the group of between 10 and 20 men attacked a food shop owned by an Indian migrant and
two stores operated by Bangladeshis, disappearing before police arrived.

The assault comes as Silvio Berlusconi's administration launches a crackdown on illegal immigration, and days after a mob
firebombed Gypsy camps in Naples. Last month crowds at Rome's town hall welcomed newly-elected mayor Gianni Alemanno with
fascist salutes...

"Italy is not a racist country," said interior minister Roberto Maroni ..."Episodes of this kind are sometimes inflamed by crimes committed by illegal immigrants."

He is right, Italy is not a racist country, just a Fascist one.

Berlusconi's New Italy is starting to look much like Mussolini's old Italy.

2. Classic example of blaming the victim
"Episodes of this kind are sometimes inflamed by crimes committed by illegal immigrants."

Maybe it's time that the rest of the world considers isolating Italy.

3. It appears just as the US is "swinging" back to the center/left......
.....some parts of Europe may be "swinging" back to the right.

4. I'm not sure why but..
.. it looks like Europeans and immigrants
just do not mix well.

I think the problem stems from all those
many centuries of homogeneity and an imperial
colonialist mindset of white superiority.

What's disconcerting is thinking that Europe
had evolved after the old fascist WWII days
and then finding that those old fascist
instincts were still there under the surface,
ready to leak out when people from other
countries, religions, and cultures came over
and actually came to expect rights and fair
treatment.

Besides, if you look at the way globalization
works, people from the south are forced to
move north.. but there is no way that they are
going to just be allowed to move in and find
homes and jobs in the currently established
middle and upper classes. They are meant to
be exploited or to become part of the underclass
and know their place. When they don't like this
and want a better life, then things get tough
and violent.

Globalists, Bilderbergers, corporofascists beware:
You get what you want at a very heavy price.

5. Immigrants usually don't mix
well anywhere.

Zimbabwean immigrants are being slaughtered by South Africans.

Arabs do not tolerate even other Arab immigrants in their midst (look how they treat palestinians).

Europeans have about had enough with Islamic and third world immigrants.

America has generally been the exception, not the rule.

But that is slowly changing, considering that many immigrants now demand their new hosts adapt themselves to their culture, instead of vice-versa.

12. It's called "acculturation"
It's called "acculturation"-- the systematic give and take, and action vs. reaction of two (or more) cultures sharing and occupying the same lands.

Although referred to somewhat simplistically in the post, it is a real and valid phenomenon.

7. Does anybody mix well with immigrants? Jesus, look at us.........
....., we don't like blacks and "latin" Americans. What I'm saying here is any "home born" seems to be against the "others". That's ONE of the larger items on my agenda to repair, if I live long enough.:sarcasm:

9. Immigrants are a convenient visible scapegoat
Blaming the 'out-group' for one's problems is one of the oldest and worst aspects of human beings; and unfortunately is often whipped up by politicians, who find it convenient to get the people blaming someone other than their leaders; and the media, who have found that there is nothing like a 'daily hate' (to quote Lord Northcliffe, first owner of the 'Daily Mail') to sell papers and other media outlets.

BTW, Europaean anti-immigrant bigotry is not always based on race and colour, though it often is; nor is it necessarily based on religion. East Europaeans, especially Poles, are the latest target of British anti-immigrant bigotry, despite being white (and Christian).
