Fijians forcibly deport news chief

AN AUSTRALIAN newspaper publisher was deported from Fiji yesterday and put on a flight to South Korea, after being branded a security threat.

Fiji Times managing director Evan Hannah was put on a plane at Nadi airport at 9.35am local time according to a spokesman for News Ltd, which owns the Fiji paper and the Herald Sun.

Greg Baxter, News Ltd's director of corporate affairs, said Mr Hannah had been forced aboard the Korean Air jet by Fiji authorities ignoring a court order aimed at preventing his deportation.

"Attempts were made to initially put him on an Air Pacific flight to Australia and Air Pacific refused to take him," Mr Baxter said.
