Schumer: Bush has lost faith of the people

Published: April 29, 2008 at 12:04 PM
Print story Email to a friend Font size:WASHINGTON, April 29 (UPI) -- U.S. Sen. Charles Schumer, D-N.Y., Tuesday said the economy is in its current state because U.S. President George Bush ignored repeated warnings.

In the Democratic response to Bush's Rose Garden news conference, Schumer said Bush "has closed his eyes and put his hands over his ears as these crises have grown.

"Now all of a sudden he's realizing the problems," Schumer said, later adding, "He has lost control of what is going on in the American economy and lost the faith of the American people."

Schumer also said Bush is "plain wrong" about how to address the situation. In particular, he said, opening the Alaska National Wildlife Refuge to oil exploration will do nothing to alleviate high gasoline prices, noting it will take 10 years before new oil could be produced and then it would reduce the price of gas by only a penny a gallon.

19. They think he is a traitor.
And should be impeached by you Chuck? Why aren't you doing your duty? Even if you can't get the votes you wouldn't know since you haven't held hearing and put it to a vote.

Many Republicans hate him too but can't say it.

3. This is what Democrats should be saying.
Then say McCain is more of the same.

I don't see that follow up here, Senator.

6. Don't worry.
Not too much, anyway. Even though we're locked in a huge fight for the Democratic Party nomination, the DNC has been running ads to the effect that McCain is just as clueless as Bush when it comes to dealing with the country's problems. I think there will be much more to come once the nomination is settled.

15. He Stole Two Elections
He never had any mandate.... the only time that piece of shit had any real support was right after 9-11 and he abused it for illegally invading another country and stealing money out of our Treasury for his fascist business buddies currently running the military industrial complex.

PS - you stupid bastard!

16. Well well, someone has bought a clue
Too bad Schumer and others didn't start ringing alarm bells about the economy sooner. It isn't as if the current economic shitstorm wasn't being predicted 3 years ago when the Repubs still owned Congress. And it has everything to do with Bush**'s intentional devaluation of our currency, deregulation of the financial sector, turning our crops into ethanol, and the massive deficits brought on by tax cuts to the rich along with a $12 billion/month occupation founded on lies.

Because they didn't speak up (and even voted along with Repubs on some of the catalysts), the Dems are going to have a hard time convincing the uninformed public otherwise as the Right goes into overdrive blaming the economy on the Dem Congress.

25. No. He's attempting to repair his reputation after pushing for the appointment of the current AG.
Schumer is a prime example of what is currently wrong with the Democratic Party leadership. And...he supports Hillary Clinton, need I say more.

Schumer and Feinstein are not Democrats, please remember this people. Both have done more in recent times to set back American freedoms than some of their Repuke brethern.

is pure cynical pandering on his part. I don't think that he gives two shits what the American people feel or think, otherwise he would speak up about impeachment and Mukasey would not be the current AG. A little too little too late, with a little too much help to the wrong people on the way to his "awakening".

31. Since when has Bush had faith in the American people?
Or cared about them?

Two way street you worthless piece of carbon. And the Secret Service that protect him too. With any luck Bush will be dead from drinking or something before his 10 year protection is up.

Schumer is mistaken in believing that Bushrot is interested in the problems facing the people.
