Georgia posts big jump in mass layoff jobless claims
http://www.accessnorthga.com/news/ap_newfullstory.asp?ID=29902

Georgia posted the nations second-largest increase in jobless claims due to large-scale layoffs, according to a Bureau of Labor Statistics report released Thursday.

In 2003, mass layoffs produced 7,121 more jobless claims in Georgia than those caused in 2002 by such large-scale layoffs.

Only the state of New York, which had 8,005 more claims from laid-off workers than in 2002, had a larger increase than Georgia.

18. They just need to be retrained
In a low paying job-----------say...at McDonalds. Yeah, that's it. There are jobs out there just waiting to be filled.

2. No sympathy for "THE LAND OF THE WILTING JULIPS"!
After what happened to Max Cleland and Roy Barnes in 2002, I have no respect for Georgia. Also, their two Senators are sewer scum!!!!

:puke: Georgia

3. Perhaps they can pray this problem away
A direct appeal to Jesus. Since all the textile jobs are gone and the tech jobs are going, a prayer is about all they have left. Maybe they can find a way to sell them.

7. Hey, not all people in Georgia are holy-rollers.
I live in Georgia and I'm an atheist. But if prayer works, I just pray that I keep my job.

8. They've been selling prayers for years
and pretty lucrative business it is. Sad thing is it doesn't seem to help the little guy, just the fartwells and robbersons.

9. Yeah, umm. We're not all
people of prayer. I was raised atheist. So take it easy on the stereotyping bullshit.

But my home state is in a dire situation, that's true. I know, because I had to move to get a job after I graduated college. Zell is a fucking traitor and they stole the election from Barnes.

4.  This might cost the republican,s the solid south
After the administration of Harding, Coolidge and Hoover, economic conditions got so bad that the Democrat Roosevelt was elected, he brought the nation especially the south back to economic health , and it took three generations of people dying off before another right wing Conservative republican was elected president of the United States again...(Ronald Reagan & Bush Hoover W.( Bush the lesser is applying the same tax policies in his administration as Harding,Coolidge and Hoover, big tax cuts to business and wealthy citizens, causing a maldistribution of income , therefore Bush the lesser is seeing the same results, deep recession , a failure with economic...Maybe they still have a few of Great Grandfathers stories of the depression in their memories and will do as their ancestors did vote democrat for the next 70 years.

5. I hope you're right
So many people in this country (North and South) seem capable of massive self-deception where Bushwa is concerned.

12. I am a Georgia transplant by way of Florida for the
last 25 years. Sure is a bummer on jobs here as the figures show. My son and daughter both college graduates had a struggle finding jobs. My son finally went over into Florida and got a job since it is only a 45 minute drive for us to Tallahassee but my daughter don't want to do the drive so she is still searching in Georgia doing some tutoring part time.

Yep, might look good down here for the Democrat and they maximize this issue.

10. The Guv's in trouble too,
for letting his son use the state helicopter to fly to a high school football game.

And the Guv and the Attorney General are not friends since the AG kicked his ass in the battle about whether the AG works for the governor or the state.

17. I live in Georgia. I am pissed
It's not a matter of ideology so much as sheer stupidity. If the Repubs were named after the group that voted most heavily for them in every election, they'd be the Teevee Idjit Party.

13. I'm not so sure of the rest of the state, but Atlanta
got hit hard after 9/11 because much revenue comes from conventions. After 9/11, conventions scaled way back if they didn't cancel altogether. Convention business is probably at least 25% less than what it was pre-9/11, and then this affects hotels, taxis, restaurants, bars, tourist sites, museums, and malls, all who have been shedding employees since it looks like a recovery is going to be long and slow, if shrub let's it happen at all.

16. I live in Georgia and its true
I live in Georgia and cant find a job either because no one is hiring or theres no jobs. I am pretty ticked at Perdue not because of the silly flag flap but he isnt doing a good enough job. I wish Barnes would run again in 2006. also sick of Miller and chambliss and how he treated Cleland. that was taking it too far
