Fat in the fire over diet guru insult (Bloomberg insults Atkins)
The mayor of New York has outraged the widow of Robert Atkins by calling the diet guru "fat" and the food he served "inedible".

Veronica Atkins was described as "extremely upset and hurt" by Michael Bloomberg's remarks about her late husband, made as the mayor tucked into a distinctly non-Atkins plate of pasta with Brooklyn firemen this week.

Dr Atkins died last year aged 72 from head injuries after slipped on ice. His controversial diet, which advocates eating meat, eggs and cheese over pasta, bread and vegetables, has been widely popular since his first book came out in 1972, selling millions of copies.

But Mr Bloomberg implied that the pioneer of the high-fat, high-protein, low-carbohydrate approach to weight loss died not of the blow to the head but of problems linked to his girth. "Atkins is dead. I don't believe that bullshit that he dropped dead slipping on the sidewalk. Yeah right," the billionaire mayor said sarcastically.

Asked by one of the firemen what Dr Atkins looked like when the two men met, Mr Bloomberg replied: "The guy was fat - big guy, but heavy."

The food served to guests at a fundraiser at the Atkinses' home in the Hamptons two years ago was "just terrible", he went on. "I took one appetiser and I had to spit it into my napkin."

5. There are a lot of people walking around that
are slim and healthy living the Atkins way.
People are different and what works for one
may not for another. I give credit to anyone's
diet if it works for them....too bad Mr. Bloomberg
is so narrow minded and rude to boot!

6. Bloomberg=Jimmy the Greek reincarnated?
:tinfoilhat: Open mouth; insert foot. How doltish does a person have to be?

Dr Atkins was in good health before he succumbed to something that is a disaster for lots of the elderly... a fall.
