Grand Jury Hears Plame Case
Holy sheit!

http://www.time.com/time/nation/article/0,8599,581456,00.html

Sources with knowledge of the case tell TIME that behind closed doors at the E. Barrett Prettyman federal courthouse, nearby the Capitol, a grand jury began hearing testimony Wednesday in the investigation of who leaked the identity of CIA operative Valerie Plame to columnist Robert Novak and other journalists.

Now we just need to hope the evidence they find is sufficient to put this admin on the run.

3. Wow!
Check out this quote at the end: "No one knows what the hell is going on," says someone who could be a witness, "because the administration people are all terrified and the lawyers aren't sharing anything with each other either."

Notice how this is the antithesis of the Starr investigation - no politically motivated leaks. And now we know why the special prosecutor was brought on board.

14. I HOPE they're all terrified. They deserve to be.
I hope they are all sleeping fitfully and growing nice big ulcers. I also hope there's at least one of them who finally develops a conscience. We desperately need a Project for a New American Deep Throat.

24. Now why would the administration be terrified?
They never do anything wrong just ask them. If ever there was any justice please let it be within this administration. I worry that when the fox is protecting the henhouse that healthy hens will not be the end result.

15. grand juries
are always behind closed doors. Nothing unusual about that. It would be reckless to accuse people of crimes, then never charge them.

16. here's THEIR "out"
A huge unanswered question in this case is whether the leaker or leakers knew that Plame was undercover when they gave her identity away. That is a necessary element for any indictment for leaking the name of a covert agent. However, charges could also be brought for making false statements to the FBI, if a guilty party has falsely claimed innocence in interviews with government agents.

--------------

the LEAKER would have had to known that PLAME was CIA .... cue the Sgt Shultz clip.... I know nothing.....

19. I met with Joe Wilson yesterday
Edited on Fri Jan-23-04 10:16 AM by MaineDem
I mentioned this on another thread but he said he was satisfied with the choice of Fitzgerald as the prosecutor on this. Ambassador Wilson said he trusts "government professionals" (his term), of which he himself was one for over 25 years, to do their jobs without political interference.

He also said the "leaker" could only be one of about 10 people.

Edited for typo.

Did he name the 10 people it could be?
Rove and Scooter Libby are gimmes, but I wonder who the other eight would be?

20. If it was or done at the behest of Rove, will the house of neo-con cards
completely collapse? Could this represent the beginning of a chain reaction of investigations into misuse of office, fraud, treason, etc? If the grand jury proceeding produces an indictment (or two or three or more), do ya' think that the civil suits by 9/11 victims and that Arar fellow and others like them will be further bolstered and finally brought into the public's purview? When I think of the possibilities, I get pretty damned punchy *LOL*!!!
