(PA) State GOP aims to reverse voter registration losses
Source: TRIBUNE-REVIEW

Faced with a daunting deficit of 1 million registered voters, the Pennsylvania Republican Party is planning a major registration drive to win back some of the people who switched to the Democratic Party in advance of the April 22 primary.

Republican activists will begin the drive on the day of the primary, standing outside polling stations in select counties, asking voters if they'd switched sides and, if they have, if they'd please switch back, said state party chairman Robert Gleason.

"In addition, after Election Day we're going to have an intensive effort to contact all these (former Republicans) by phone," Gleason said. "We're going to go after them and try to get them back."

The Democratic Party has grown by more than 300,000 voters since last fall's election, due in large part to registration drives by Democratic presidential candidates Sens. Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama. Interest in the Pennsylvania primary -- it's the first time in decades the state's vote has mattered so much in picking a party's nominee -- also has driven the registration surge.

2. Isn't the window closed?
I thought that PA closed voter registration 30 days prior to their primary.

5. I think they're targeting the general election in November
Given the mood, I think they're going to be getting a lot of "fuck offs" in response to their phone calls.

6. I do hope they will be behind that line that says no campaigning within
so many feet of polling places. I think as good Democrats, that we should make sure they are behind that line. We don't want to give any indications that bias' are happening, now do we? If I lived in PA, I would bring a tape measure to ensure that they have not stepped over the line.

7. I think the GOP is ON to something!!
Most intelligent people would think that having policies and legislation battles that benefit their constituents would be enough to get voters to switch back, but I think that just asking them to do so without any reason for it is a better plan!

8. Good luck with that.
People who have just converted (assuming they really have) are the hardest to win back.

9. c-span
For the first time since I started watching c-span, the other day THERE WERE NO REPUBLICAN CALLERS! Greta had to implore them to call. It really shows how bad it is for the Republicans.
